Research Associate, Crop Traits  

GreenLight Biosciences is seeking a highly motivated Research Associate to apply cutting-edge RNA technology to the development of novel agricultural products. The successful candidate will be a member of the Crop Traits team and will be responsible for executing a set of innovative hands-on bench experiments as well as supporting analytical and technical characterization of cellular delivery materials and biological outcomes. Experience in a team-based research environment along with excellent organizational and communication skills are required. 

Responsibilities:  

  • Active member of the Crop Traits team supporting innovative research on the use of RNAi in plants to improve crops through molecular and cellular research on crop plant physiology. 
  • Responsible for the execution of bioassays, development of small pilot assays, as well as chemical and molecular characterization of assay materials for cellular delivery. 
  • Conducting greenhouse and lab experiments to measure the efficacy of RNA delivery at both whole plant and molecular levels 
  • Sampling, observing, and recording plant responses to RNA treatments 
  • Performing extractions and analytical measurements to assess RNA uptake and downstream effects 
  • Analyzing data and preparing reports for stakeholders 
  • Maintaining accurate records of experiments and results 
  • Collaborating with team members using creative problem-solving skills to troubleshoot & overcome assay challenges 
  • Contribute to maintaining a safe work environment for the entire team. 

Qualifications:  

  • A B.S. degree in plant cellular and molecular biology, biochemistry, plant biology/physiology or related field with 1+ years of experience in plant biology in an industry setting. 
  • Proficiency in basic molecular biology concepts; (RNAi, and the relationship between genes and traits) and techniques such as RNA extraction, PCR, agarose/PAGE gels. 
  • Ability to learn new analytical techniques and run applicable equipment. 
  • Proven track record of dependability, strong work ethic and an eagerness to learn. 
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, planning and organizational skills.  
  • Computer skills and experience with Microsoft products such as Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint etc. 
  • Curiosity, tenacity and ability to build new tools from existing resources. 
  • Must possess written and verbal communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills. 

 

Experience in the following areas provides a distinct advantage:  

  • Microscopy 
  • Image-derived physiological metrics
