GreenLight Biosciences Inc. is looking for an exceptional, highly motivated Scientist to work on projects that utilize cutting-edge RNA technologies to develop novel biopesticides. The successful candidate will support research on RNA interference (RNAi) mechanisms in fungi through assay development, validation, and analysis of in vitro and in vivo experimentation. The ideal candidate should have experience developing, executing and troubleshooting molecular techniques to validate RNAi as a mode of action in fungal pathosystems. Strong technical, organizational, and communication skills, as well as the ability to develop creative solutions to challenging problems, are essential.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Execute experiments following standard operating protocols, processes, and systems.
  • Work collaboratively with our R&D team to accomplish project goals and milestones in a timely fashion.
  • Assist with the development of and execution of in vitro high throughput and in vivo screening assays for activity of novel compounds.
  • Collect and analyze data, including large scale genomic data sets using statistical methods Perform cell culture and fungal molecular biology tasks.
  • Execute and analyze experiments for gene knockdown of specific gene targets.
  • Maintain detailed records of experimental protocols and procedures.
  • Use creative problem-solving skills to independently troubleshoot experimental challenges.
  • Demonstrate skills in organization, attention to detail, interpersonal communication, judgement, planning, and prioritizing.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Contribute to technical discussions related to the development and application of GreenLight’s proprietary bioproduction technology.

 QUALIFICATIONS:

 Requirements

  • D. + 2 years or M.Sc. + 5 years of relevant industry experience in fungal molecular biology, plant molecular biology, microbiology, molecular biology, plant pathology, or related disciplines.
  • Excellent sterile technique and demonstrated experience with culturing fungi or fungal-like organisms.
  • Working proficiency in molecular techniques, such as nucleic acid extraction, PCR, qPCR, next-generation sequencing etc.
  • Experience with RNAi mechanisms in fungi/oomycetes.
  • A working knowledge of molecular plant-pathogen interactions.
    • Ability to design, analyze, and present experiment results.
    • Flexibility in handling new job assignments and achieving results in a rapidly changing work environment.
    • Ability and motivation to learn new technologies.
    • Have high quality standards for one’s own work, strong communication skills, and a commitment to team success.

 

Preferred Requirements

  • D. + 5 years or M.Sc. + 10 years of relevant industry experience in fungal molecular biology, plant molecular biology, microbiology, molecular biology, plant pathology, or related disciplines.
  • Experience with genomic and bioinformatics analysis (Python and/or Perl scripting experience is a plus)
    • Experience with setting up, executing and interpreting results of plant pathogenesis assays.
  • Experience developing in vitro and in vivo assays for screening fungicides, insecticides, or herbicides is desirable.
