Archer is an aerospace company based in Palo Alto, California building an all-electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft with a mission to advance the benefits of sustainable air mobility. What You’ll Do
- Responsible for assembling and developing an eVTOL powertrain simulation for use in an integrated simulation environment.
- The simulation will include models of battery pack power and thermal conditions during discharge and charging, motor-inverter power draw and thermal conditions, modeling intermittent power draws from vehicle subsystems, supporting vehicle-level efficiency improvement and design optimization, and establishing conditions for system evaluation to drive design or performance prediction.
- Liaise with the drive unit (motor, gearbox, inverter) and battery/BMS teams to build models of those systems at the appropriate fidelity for a multidisciplinary simulation environment
- Lead the powertrain model validation effort
- Support vehicle level trade studies involving the electric propulsion system
- Support design and analysis activities to verify business and regulatory requirements will be met with high confidence
What You Need
- BS in an Engineering discipline required. MS or PhD in an Engineering discipline highly desirable
- 8+ years of multi-physics simulation experience, or 5+ years of experience with powertrain simulation
- Expert in numerical modeling and dynamic simulation of complex systems
- Experience modeling battery energy storage systems and/or electric propulsion systems
- Proficient in at least one programming/scripting language (e.g. MATLAB/Simulink, Python, or Julia)
- Experience building surrogate models based on high fidelity disciplinary simulations
- Strong technical, written, and verbal communication skills
- Experience in a fast-paced design environment
Bonus Qualifications
- Numerical Optimization experience
- Familiar with 14 CFR Part 33 and RTCA DO-311A
