We are looking for a Power Systems Lab Safety Engineer who will work in collaboration with Engineering, Facilities, and outside suppliers to develop and implement robust electrical safety standards throughout the organization. You will serve as our Subject Matter Expert responsible for the safety review of the design and development of electrical equipment; adherence of electrical systems to functional and regulatory standards; and the review of vendor electrical designs to ensure they meet internal safety standards and best practices.

You will be based in our office in San Carlos, CA. You will report to our Vice President, Power Systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Establish standards for electrical safety design, documentation, and training for the Power System Lab
  • Organize all required electrical safety trainings for Engineering team Interpret applicable electrical safety regulations and standards and provide gap analyses
  • Perform risk assessments (e.g. HAZOP, FMEA, etc)
  • Conduct design reviews and participate in technical evaluations
  • Deploy systems for effective de-energization, lockout/tag-out, and verification of zero energy on products and systems to control/eliminate electrical hazards
  • Provide field troubleshooting and problem-solving of issues that may arise from design issues or incidents caused by a design failure.
  • Review electrical safety in other company locations

Requirements:

  • BS degree in electrical engineering or related field
  • 5+ years of relevant professional experience with electrical safety responsibilities
  • Knowledge of Electrical Standards (NFPA 79, NFPA 70-E, IEC 60204-1, UL508A) along with demonstrated working experience on and around energized equipment Knowledge of Safety Standards (ISO 13849-1, ISO 10218, UL1740, ANSI/RIA15.06)
  • Knowledge of appropriate safety precautions and required PPE, to ensure a safe work environment for personnel and equipment
  • Working knowledge of emergency response procedures for energized equipment
  • Experience developing and implementing LOTO procedures
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Outgoing, proactive, and positive attitude; enjoy working in a dynamic and fast-paced start-up environment
  • Comfortable working with all levels and functions to achieve organizational objectives
