Your role and your team: 

We are seeking a highly motivated entry level Materials and Process (M&P) engineer who is eager to learn and ready to apply their knowledge in a unique and exciting program environment. You will report directly to the Head of Materials & Processes and provide support for various testing, qualification and process development efforts required for aircraft certification. As part of the M&P team, you will work closely with various Integrated Project Team supporting all aspects of design, manufacturing, and quality. Strong verbal communication and writing skills are essential.

This position involves very close interaction with our design and manufacturing engineers as well as the testing team. You will support the team by investigating various material and processes for aerospace applications as well as provide guidance on sealants and coatings applications. Additional responsibilities will include the hands-on development of test plans for material design allowable generation and the documentation of results required for the associated specifications.

Your Day to Day:

  • Support various engineering projects for structural, non-structural, propulsion, energy storage and interior flammability applications
  • Support qualification activities as required, including test plan writing and panel fabrication oversight and management of design allowable
  • Engineering support on manufacturing process industrialisation, including failure analysis and statistical process control evaluation
  • Support manufacturing process improvements, and oversight of process verification results
  • Research new technology proposals, underlying physical effects, or case studies to support evaluations of concepts
  • Support the development of specifications, written reports, operating procedures, and data analysis for complex processes
  • Support various program needs, which include material testing for mechanical and physical characterisation
  • Assist the substantiation of materials and process related non-conformance dispositions, and root cause and corrective action analyses
  • Documentation of best practices found during qualification efforts, including authoring technical memos and presentations

Your Profile:

  • Degree in mechanical-, aerospace-, chemical-, materials engineering or similar (Ph.D./ M. Sc. preferred)
  • Coursework in organic chemistry and hands-on experience with composite manufacturing, including prepreg, adhesives and sealants 
  • 1-5 years experience focused on materials testing and specification development, aerospace engineering experience is a plus
  • General understanding of the procedure for material and process selection, especially as related to manufacturing applications
  • Experience reviewing engineering documentation including drawings, models, specifications and standards is a plus
  • Experience in defining material test standards and statistical design allowable development is a plus
  • Experience in composite and adhesive material testing, including shear and peel mechanical testing, DMA, DSC, and FTIR
  • Experience in fatigue and damage tolerance testing is beneficial
  • Driven individual with the ability to probe & challenge assumptions
  • High level of self-reliance with the ability to work in a team, as well as individually
  • Target-oriented working style with analytical problem solving skills
  • Fluent English language skills are essential, Fluent German or any other language would be beneficial.
