Your role and your team:

Are you looking to apply your Safety and Reliability Engineering knowledge and expertise to the design of a cutting-edge product?

As the Manager of Safety and Reliability you will be the functional leader of the Safety & Reliability disciplines within Lilium, focusing on the development of our team and products.

You will report directly to the Head of Engineering Services and work closely with all our Engineering Teams. Your contribution will be key for the development of Lilium’s ground-breaking aircraft.

Working within a complex stakeholder landscape and often with immature, developing and changing requirements, you will be expected to guide our internal departments to scope, analyse and deliver safe & compliant solutions. This is a prominent position within our organisation, which puts safety and integrity at the heart of its success.

Interested candidates should possess an engineering or physical science degree, and/or a substantial period in industry. It goes without saying you will have a passion for the discipline of Safety & Reliability Engineering and a desire to share your passion with the team.

When not leading the functional activities (such as shaping the ways of working, processes and team career development) you will become our Chief Safety Engineer on a large scale and complex project. In this part of the role you will ensure the product meets the business, safety and reliability requirements as part of an integrated project team. You will be responsible for supporting the design teams by performing system safety and reliability activities ensuring that the safety objectives are compliant with the required regulations.

The successful applicant will be a decision maker and become a key part of the Engineering Services team. You will be empowered within the project / functional teams to make decisions on safety and reliability topics and develop a world class team.

Your Day to Day:

  • Working with the System Design Teams and suppliers on system architecture, functionality, and design to ensure compliance against the safety targets defined by the regulations.
  • Developing the functional strength in the safety and reliability field by defining processes, guidance, and career development of the team.
  • Ensuring our projects develop safe and reliable products.
  • Assisting the team to perform system-level safety analysis such as SFHA/PSSA/SSA as well as contributing to aircraft safety assessment studies including PRA, ZSA, CMA, MMEL.
  • Assisting the team in performing reliability analysis using tools such as reliability block diagrams, reliability predictions, FMEA/FMECA.
  • Compiling Safety and Reliability Documentation in support of the Lilium Jet design and certification activities.
  • Generating safety compliance statements against SC VTOL and other referenced specifications/regulations.

Your Profile:

  • BSc/MSc in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or similar field.
  • 15+ years of experience in safety & reliability roles.
  • 10+ years of experience in a UK CAA, EASA, or FAA  Design Organisation
  • Knowledge of CS 23/27.1309, SC VTOL.2510 or equivalent.
  • Experience with undertaking rotorcraft/fixed-wing safety assessments, per SAE ARP4761 and SAE ARP4754A.
  • Held delegated authority for authoring, checking, approving, and releasing Engineering Reports and Drawings within the field of Safety and Reliability
  • Familiarity with DO178B/C and DO254.
  • Experience in System Reliability tools.
  • Target-oriented with analytic problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to perform several systems safety tasks in parallel.
  • Critical thinker and self-starter.
  • Proficient in the English language.
