You will help design the fluid system of Electric Hydrogen's electrolyzer. You will be based in our office in San Carlos, CA with allowable hybrid work schedule. Depending on the phase of the project, up to 10% of your time might be best spent with boots on the ground at vendors or the project site <1 hour away from here. You will report to the Director of Systems (Plant Engineering).

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Develop a large-scale first-of-a-kind hydrogen production plant, optimized for lowest total system cost
  • Create a modular process skid design suitable for easy and economical scale up
  • Perform process design for large flows, pressures, and temperatures of water, hydrogen, oxygen
  • Create PFDs, Heat and Mass Balances, P&IDs, equipment sizing, etc.
  • Get hands-on in the lab to build prototypes, develop model correlations, ground assumptions, and refine new technologies
  • Apply knowledge and industry experience to simplify plant architecture
  • Work with component vendors and system fabricators to develop understanding of cost tradeoffs, then work with those vendors to source optimized components and subsystems
  • Help develop company strategy for make vs. buy decisions

Required Experience and Professional Qualities

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or similar
  • Industry experience in rockets, power, oil & gas, chemical processing, cooling and chilling, or water systems
  • 1+ year experience with the engineering, procurement, and construction of fluid systems
  • Familiarity with process modeling and cost modeling software like ASPEN etc.
  • Guide development activities for maximum rate of learning
  • Maintain focus on high-level goals while handling the details
  • Previous work at startups or early-stage companies
