C1 develops new, climate-friendly chemical production processes by rethinking chemical reactions from the atomic level all the way up to production scale.
The first innovation to spin out of our quantum-chemistry platform is a novel, proprietary methanol catalysis. This groundbreaking technology disrupts a century old chemical production process and enables us to unlock non-fossil feedstocks for the production of green methanol.
Green methanol will play a pivotal role in the defossilization of the carbon-based chemical industry and is poised to become the alternative fuel of choice for net-zero shipping. The market for green methanol is expected to grow to appr. $200 billion per year by 2050. The resulting CO2 saving potential of green methanol is several gigatons per year (several percentage points of current global CO2 emissions).
Our aim is to realize as much of that potential as fast as possible.
Your mission
100 years after the invention of industrial methanol synthesis, we will fundamentally revolutionise this technology. Our disruptive process is based on homogeneous catalysis, which enables us to fundamentally rethink methanol production in a green way. To this end, we are launching our first pilot in one of Germany's largest chemical parks to demonstrate our technology based on CO2 and green hydrogen.
We are looking for you to drive this milestone forward together with us and thus take the first step towards industrial-scale homogeneous production of green methanol!
Your mission will be:
- You will be responsible for the successful start-up and continued operation of the experimental reactor and solve any problems that arise on the chemical side.
- You will answer critical questions on catalyst aging and recycling through collaborations with renowned research institutes
- You design and implement the practical implementation of our catalysis technology in an industrial environment based on CO2 and green H2 and take over the training of colleagues.
- You develop and take responsibility for a reliable supply chain for all chemical aspects (catalyst, solvent, ...) in the project.
Your profile
You have successfully completed a PhD in chemistry with specialization in homogeneous catalysis (ideally in the field of organometallic catalysis)
- You have experience with mechanistic studies in the field of homogeneous catalysis
- You are familiar with the necessary analytical methods such as GC/LC-MS, NMR, UV-VIS, XAS, HPLC,... and can analyze and interpret results and derive concrete actions
- You have basic experience in organic synthesis, ideally of pincer ligands
- You speak German and English
Why us?
As a startup in Berlin, we offer a dynamic and non-bureaucratic environment, attractive salary and stock option package, and the chance to help solve the #1 global challenge, climate change.
We welcome applications from all genders and are open to part-time.
