Fluence is seeking an experience engineering leader who can partner with product management and manufacturing to conceptualize systems level design of complex industrial products, develop rapid prototypes, take prototypes from concept into mass manufacturing all while driving rigorous engineering design practices into the development of the product roadmap. The VP of Engineering will also be the direct manager of all global technical (non-software) employees in Fluence.

Reporting directly to the Chief Product Officer, the Vice President of Engineering will be a member of the company’s senior leadership team and will be responsible for leading all global engineering efforts for our world-class Energy storage solutions. In this role, you will lead a talented multi-site, global engineering team focused on the management and development of our energy storage and management offerings. You will help shape the vision for our next generation products in collaboration with stakeholders. Being hands on will be critical to success in this position. Importantly, this person must be capable of growing, developing, and managing a large, high performance engineering organization with open communication and transparency.

As the Vice President of Product Engineering at Fluence, you will:

Oversee the creation of a highly skilled technical team that can deliver complex products to the market at an un-naturally fast pace.

Provide Technical Leadership with a keen connection and understanding of the business value proposition; Supply Chain, Fluence Go-to-Market, etc. This person needs to be a true business leader that can grow and drive a technology organization in context of business; not only on the best technology answers, but the best technology answers to achieve business goals.

Work closely with the VP of Software Development to drive all systems, solutions and hardware. The team they create will need to implement requirements, development, systems engineering that leverage software development as critical inputs to success.

Build a strong bench of engineering leaders who will adopt and execute best practices such as Agile, PLM, validation testing across the board.

Provide visionary leadership aligning technology efforts with our mission.

Ensure Fluence has an executable technology strategy, which is a critical input to the product strategy.

Leverage emerging technologies to advance Fluence product offerings.

Drive a Product-Oriented Approach.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to shape Fluence product roadmap. Create a technology leadership team and culture that thrives in such collaboration.

Ensure on-time delivery of high-quality, strategically aligned products.

Emphasize a customer-centric approach in product development.

Inspire a diverse technology and product team.

Teach Fluence to implement, operate and practice disciplined systems engineering processes for the entire program life cycle: requirements, design, assembly, integration, test, production and analysis; speed that is faster than found in legacy industrial business.

Create best practices to deliver quick, cost-effective, and reliable technical solutions to challenging technical issues factoring in resource, cost, schedule and technical constraints and impacts.

Foster technical team leadership with a focus on execution per the product roadmap schedule and budget.

Design and implement the specific engineering design steps associated with Fluence stage gate process. Ensure design for manufacturing is aligned within the development process.

Implement company-wide processes that ensure products released for mass manufacturing are production quality.

Implement standards for product testing hardware, software and solutions.

Implement standards for product risk review.

Implement standards for product quality and validation.

Ensure collaboration with manufacturing such that design.

Implement design of experiments in the engineering process.

Interface control documents, subsystem requirements.

Determine best practices for engineering effectiveness.

Organizational Leadership:

A product-oriented technologist and leader, preferably in high growth.

Demonstrated ability in building and managing high-performing technology teams.

Strategic thinker with outstanding problem-solving and decision-making skills.

Excellent communicator, adept at engaging with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Technical Leadership: You geek out and can go deep on technical strategy and concepts and have experience building both systems and processes at scale. You love to learn about new technologies.
