What you will do:
In this role you will be a key contributor to the Systems Engineering team for Electra, with a focus on the design and construction of chemical processing systems. These systems will integrate instrumentation, controls, plumbing, fluid power, and solids handling to enable novel electrochemical and metallurgical processes for steel production. In this role you will:
- Bring chemical systems from concepts and test stations to fully functional integrated system prototypes
- Specify and source appropriate process equipment and instrumentation to meet system design and testing requirements
- Lead technicians and contract manufacturers on mechanical and electrical hardware builds
- Utilize your knowledge of thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics to optimize system performance
- Collaborate with team members with diverse backgrounds throughout Electra to define requirements for design of test infrastructure and commercial prototypes
- Interface with vendors, supply chain team, and other 3rd parties as needed to identify manufacturers and solutions that meet the team’s needs
- Troubleshoot electrochemical systems and perform root cause analyses as need
What we need you to bring to the team:
- A Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, chemical, or electrical engineering
- 3 years of experience working on process design and scale-up of chemical processes
- Demonstrated ability to design process systems using systems engineering tools: Wiring diagrams, P&IDs, CAD
- The ability to work independently as well as collaboratively as needed
- The ability to adapt quickly to changing processes and responsibilities
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
What we want you to bring to the team:
- Experience with electrical and chemical safety
- Familiarity with both high voltage and low voltage electrical design
- Experience working with electrochemical or hydrometallurgical processes
- Familiarity with instrumentation, data acquisition, and PLC process control
- Familiarity with fluid power systems (pumps, valves, heat exchange equipment, etc.)
- Experience in a pilot-plant or development environment
- Experience or the desire to be in a dynamic startup environment
- A critical thinking mindset and focus on finding answers
- A desire to challenge yourself and take on increasing responsibilities as the company grows
