We are looking for a Simulation Facility Manager who will:

We are currently going through an exciting phase of rapid expansion as we prepare for the flight test programme of our electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing (eVTOL) aircraft. We have an exciting and unique opening for a Simulation Facility Manager to apply their skills and experience to run, develop and maintain our growing simulation facility.

Our facility includes development flight simulators, associated devices such as virtual- and mixed-reality visual systems and multiple interfaces to system and structural test rigs which run with both real and emulated hardware. The ideal candidate will bring experience and expertise in the practical and organisational elements that contribute to a state-of-the-art simulation and rig facility.

The responsibilities and duties of the Simulation Facility Manager will be as follows:

  • The day-to-day management and operation of sim facility and systems
    • Simulation evaluation sessions
    • Development work
    • VIP tours
    • Simulation facility including the Pilot-in-the-Loop Simulators (PiLS), mobile PiLS, IT equipment, simulation hardware and software
    • Preparation and configuration of systems for simulation sessions
    • Keeping the facility clean, tidy and functional
    • Maintenance and repair
    • Available to support simulation sessions operations at Bristol and mobile facility
    • Manage the booking and availability of simulation systems and required team support for (Simulation evaluation sessions, Development work, VIP tours)
  • The definition of configuration control of simulation facility and systems
    • Hardware
    • Wiring and networks
    • IT systems
    • Software
  • Taking a supporting role in the technical development and management of scheduling of:
    • Simulation development and integration activities: (Models, Visual systems (hardware and software, Cockpit hardware, Inceptors)
    • Interfacing of simulation systems to various stakeholder systems both internal and external to Vertical Aerospace (Physical and "virtual" integration

The successful Simulation Facility Manager will have the following Experiences & Qualifications:

  • Flight and operational simulator facilities, both for training and vehicle development purposes
  • Experimental and test rig facilities which interface with simulations

Useful skills to have when taking on this responsibility are:

  • Understanding of digital systems, electrical devices and interfaces
  • An ability to integrate and connect elements of the facility together
  • An ability to organise people and facilities so that the right simulation capability is developed and delivered at the right time to support the programme
  • Existing knowledge of or capability to acquire expertise in the use of simulation programming languages such as Matlab
  • An understanding of the air vehicle simulation process and how it may contribute to an aircraft being developed, certified and safely put into service.
