About this role:

We are actively seeking a seasoned and highly proficient thermal process modeling and transient simulation expert to join our System Simulation team in the capacity of a Senior Process Simulation Engineer. In this senior role, you will be a key contributor, leveraging your extensive experience to guide and shape the design, conduct analyses, and optimizations of transient processes within our thermal systems, with a primary focus on Concentrating Solar Power (CSP) systems. Your wealth of expertise in modeling and simulating transient behavior, coupled with your deep understanding of thermal processes, will be pivotal in driving forward our organization's sustainable energy initiatives.

Location: Houston, Texas or Pasadena, California

Working arrangement: Hybrid (3 days/week in the office)

In this role, you will be tasked with:

  • Collaborating cross-functionally with simulation engineers, the process design group, and other teams to contribute to the design and optimization of CSP systems, while sharing your experience on the practical implementation of such systems.
  • Developing mathematical models of thermal systems, encompassing heat transfer mechanisms, fluid dynamics, and phase changes, utilizing advanced software and simulation tools.
  • Conducting comprehensive transient simulations to analyze the dynamic behavior of thermal systems under diverse conditions, including changing weather patterns, solar flux variations, energy demand fluctuations, state changes, and control strategies.
  • Evaluating proposed CSP systems at different design stages, analyzing efficiency, energy output, and other key metrics, and identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • Validating simulation results to ensure the accuracy and reliability of the models.
  • Preparing detailed technical reports, presentations, and documentation outlining simulation results, methodologies, and recommendations for stakeholders and management.

What's essential:

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical or mechanical engineering, or a related field with a strong focus on thermal sciences.
  • 5+ years of process engineering experience in designing thermal or chemical systems, system simulation
  • Proven familiarity with thermal and power systems, showcasing expertise in thermal system modeling, transient simulation, and energy systems analysis.
