About this role:

This is a hybrid role (3 days a week onsite) in Houston, TX. 

Heliogen is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Facilities and Environmental, Health, and Safety (EH&S) Manager to oversee and ensure compliance with all environmental, health, and safety regulations pertaining to our facilities and office space with specific focus on the renewable energy site in Plains, Texas (Plains, TX Facility). The successful candidate will manage the daily operations of all Heliogen facilities and develop and implement EH&S policies and procedures to maintain a safe and efficient work environment for Heliogen personnel. This role requires approximately 25% travel, and may require occasional periods of being on-call after hours.

In this role, you will:

  • Develop, implement, and manage comprehensive EH&S program and policy specific to Plains, TX Facility to ensure compliance with all relevant Federal, State, and Local regulations and standards (OSHA, EPA, etc.). This includes acting as the primary contact for regulatory agencies and stewardship of all required reporting and documentation.
  • Support construction, start-up, commissioning, and operations handover of Plains, TX Facility. Coordinate with project managers, construction manager, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth project execution and adherence to project timelines.
  • Conduct regular EH&S audits, risk assessments, and inspections at the Plains, TX Facility to identify and mitigate potential hazards.
  • Maintain accurate records of EH&S near misses, incidents, training, and compliance activities at the Plains, TX Facility. Lead incident investigations, conduct root cause analysis, and implement and track corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Review subcontractor EH&S programs and assist procurement team in subcontractor qualification process.
  • Provide EH&S training and education to all employees, fostering a culture of safety, environmental stewardship, and innovation.
  • Oversee the maintenance and upkeep of all Heliogen facilities with specific focus on the Plains, TX Facility, including buildings, grounds, and solar technology equipment.
  • Develop and manage the annual facilities budget for all Heliogen facilities.
  • Develop and implement a preventative maintenance program to ensure all Heliogen facilities and equipment are in safe and optimal working condition.
  • Manage site logistics for each Heliogen facility, including the coordination of facilities maintenance activities and service contracts, and/or communication with landlord to address issues.
  • Providing regular updates to senior management on facilities KPIs and E&HS compliance and trends.
  • Develop and implement site-specific emergency response plans and conduct regular drills to ensure preparedness for each Heliogen facility.

What's essential:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Facilities Management, Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, or a related field. Relevant experience in lieu of degree will be considered.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in facilities management and EH&S roles
  • In-depth knowledge of EH&S regulations and standards (OSHA, EPA, TCEQ, etc.) for Texas.
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing EH&S programs and policies.
  • Experience with boilers and/or steam-generating equipment, specifically operating permits, inspections, etc.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with all levels of the organization.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • 25% travel

Desirable:

  • Familiarity with behavior-based safety programs
  • Experience with commercial or industrial construction projects
  • Certification in EH&S (e.g., CSP, CIH, CHMM) is preferred.
  • Experience with solar energy technology
