About the company:

GreenLight Biosciences is a mission-driven public-benefit corporation using the power of RNA to tackle some of humanity's greatest challenges, including pandemics, rare diseases, biodiversity and climate change.

ABOUT GREENLIGHT

At GreenLight we are working to solve two of the world's greatest problems: global food insecurity and equal access to vaccines and the associated health benefits. Unlike most corporations who can be required to put profits ahead of other principles, GreenLight is one of the first Public Benefit Corporations to be publicly traded and have a charter that requires a focus on how it benefits its employees, community and society and has a broad portfolio addressing key issues in plant health and human health (Nasdaq: GRNA) by leveraging the full potential of dsRNA and mRNA. The GreenLight team is a  little over 260 people across our headquarters in Lexington, MA, an R&D facility and an R&D facility in Research Triangle Park, NC. GreenLight also has a biomanufacturing plant in Rochester, NY. Initiatives include finding ways to support biodiversity, protect bees and other pollinators, treat rare diseases as well as develop vaccines.

At GreenLight, we believe inclusion is the way forward. We celebrate the power of working together to address humanity’s challenges, meet the needs of underserved populations, and push the boundaries of scientific discovery. Fueled by our aspiration for a true sense of belonging, our talented teams embody the principles of diversity and equality as we strive to bring food security, medicine, and healthcare to everyone—paving the way for a sustainable future. Greenlight Biosciences is developing cutting edge RNA technologies that address global challenges in food security, pollinator safety, and human health. GreenLight is seeking a highly motivated, collaborative, and experienced Scientist – Mass Spectrometry & Analytical Chemistry to join our Analytical Sciences team supporting RNAi product research and development. In this role you will lead a small team focused on the development and execution of LCMS and HPLC methods for the quantification of metabolites (e.g. mycotoxins, phytohormones, etc.), proteins, and formulation components. The successful candidate will have in-depth experience operating, troubleshooting, and developing methods on QQQ and HRMS instruments and have worked with biological molecules in previous roles. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to thrive in a cross-functional team working to deliver against aggressive deadlines is essential. Experience with various techniques to characterize and quantify proteins is strongly preferred. Strong technical, organizational, and communication skills, and the ability and drive to maintain commitment to scientific excellence and high-quality work in a fast-paced, milestone-driven company are must-haves.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Establish, maintain, and troubleshoot Agilent HPLCs / UHPLCs, Thermo Q Exactive HRMS, and Sciex API5000 QQQ LC-MS/MS instruments, or equivalent systems
  • Develop and oversee execution of high-throughput, targeted metabolite assays to support in vitro and in vivo experiments (e.g. analytes such as mycotoxins, plant metabolites, and central carbon intermediates)
  • Develop and execute targeted protein quantification assays to confirm mode-of-action of RNAi products and characterize response in target organisms
  • Provide expertise in Analytical Chemistry and support the development of assays to quantify various formulation components and support the Formulations R&D team
  • Advance the analytical technology and tools within the company to stay at leading edge; focusing on methods for RNA characterization, RNAi mode of action, and global proteomics
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to one or more Scientists / Research Associates on the team
  • Analyze, summarize, and present technical data to manager and other team members
  • Stay up to date with scientific and technical development within the field of analytical chemistry

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE / QUALIFICATIONS

  • PhD (+2 yrs industry experience) or MSc (+5 yrs industry experience) required
  • Extensive hands-on experience with (U)HPLC, HRMS, and LC-MS/MS required, including troubleshooting, operating, and development of analytical methods for biomolecules
  • Proficiency with high-throughput LCMS assays for the quantification of metabolites and small molecules
  • Proven track record of successful method development, including development of sample extraction methods with acceptable performance criteria is required
  • Proficiency with contemporary proteomics software (e.g. MaxQuant, Proteome Discoverer, Skyline, Spectronaut etc.) and proteomics workflows (sample prep, HRMS acquisition, and both labelled and label-free quantification methods) preferred
  • Broad protein experience including techniques such as CE, SDS-PAGE, etc. is a plus
  • Familiarity with data handling languages (e.g. R, Python) is a plus.
  • Strong technical background in biochemistry, with knowledge of nucleic acid chemistry and microbial metabolism strongly preferred
  • Must be highly motivated with high quality standards for one’s own work, strong communication skills, and an absolute commitment to team success
