Our Mission  

The Role

SPAN is looking for a customer obsessed and deeply analytical product manager to focus on customer insights and data science that will help drive SPAN’s efforts to accelerate residential electrification. We have an exciting near-term roadmap of product offerings that you will help shape and refine with rigorous data analysis and strategic problem solving. If you love working with data and want to use those skills to understand customer problems and pioneer elegant solutions, this role is for you.

You will report to a staff product manager on SPAN’s product team, which includes product management, applications engineering, and design. As part of the product team, you will collaborate with talented people across the SPAN organization, including our data science, engineering, marketing, and technical sales teams.

During this internship, you will:

• Work on challenging problems and solutions that can move the needle on climate change

• Leverage data from SPAN’s fleet, appliance partners, and utilities to estimate and work to increase the value of candidate product features

• Use digital customer engagement tools and related data to analyze customer experience and inform product requirements

• Learn from cross functional teams as you integrate engineering, operations, and commercial constraints and opportunities into product recommendations

• Present your recommendations and receive constructive feedback

About You 

We are seeking a candidate who 

• Is working towards an MBA or an MS in science, engineering, or a related field

• Wants to use existing data analysis skills to inform high-impact product decisions

• Possesses advanced Python skills, as well as familiarity with pandas and scikit-learn

• Has knowledge and experience working within cloud computing and data environments such as AWS and Snowflake

• Is adept working with SQL and data visualization tools

• Communicates effectively and can distill insights into concise presentations for both technical and non-technical audiences

• Is excited to learn and grow in a cooperative team environment, working on robust solutions to complex problems

Every Product team member brings a unique perspective, so any combination of the following skills is welcome but not required.

• Experience with customer research and writing product requirements

• Knowledge about electricity tariffs and markets

• Knowledge about residential electrification policy and technologies

• Exposure to customer engagement platforms (e.g. Customer.io)

• Experience with home automation and web technologies like Home Assistant and MQTT

The hourly rate for this role is $35/hr for Masters or PhD students.
