About the company:
The co-op position has a duration of 6 months and will start in either January 2024 or July 2024. Candidates must be enrolled in an accredited college or university, and have not graduated prior to end of the co-op term.

SPAN’s Power Electronics team is looking for an intuitive and multidisciplinary power electronics engineer intern to participate in developing different power converter platforms used in SPAN products. In this role, you will be tasked with researching, designing, implementing, testing, and validating multiple hardware and control designs used in power electronics systems.
You will work alongside outstanding Power Electronics Engineers to support the development and research in different fields, such as semiconductors and magnetics simulation and validation, EMC, Controls, and firmware for power converters.
You will collaborate with software, firmware, controls, and mechanical teams to implement technologies that electrify the home and delight our customers.
Responsibilities include two or more of the following:
Support evaluation, testing, and the design of power converters.
Create schematics and layouts using Altium Designer.
Conduct circuit and power system modeling and simulation.
Validate Control algorithms and support SIL, HIL, and Hardware implementation.
Build prototype components and assemblies, optimizing components to meet system requirements.
Support Lab Test Setups, data collection, and analysis.
Collaborate with internal and external teams.
Required Qualifications
We are seeking an intern who meets the following criteria:
Passion for clean energy technology and decarbonization
Pursuing a degree in electrical engineering, applied mathematics, or equivalent fields.
Experience with first principles analysis of physical systems
Excellent communication skills
Experience in Lab Testing environments with actual hardware prototypes or components.
Bonus Qualifications
Experience with Simulink, PLECS, or SPICE (e.g., LTspice) applied to electronics, semiconductor, and magnetic design.
Experience using Python, C++, or C
Experience with Typhoon HIL.
Experience working with Grid and High Voltage Simulators.
Ph.D. students or Candidates.
