What You Will Be Doing:

In this role, you will work within a small team to plan, implement, and operate network services/devices. You must be resourceful in diagnosing and resolving problems in an efficient manner. Patience to communicate with teams and users of varying levels of technical knowledge and skill is a must. This role is responsible for planning, setting up, and maintaining the network architecture and infrastructure (e.g., installing, configuring, and updating hardware and software; establishing and maintaining network and data flow diagrams; conducting network backup and recovery tasks; implementing operational and technical security controls; adhering to organizational security policies and procedures; etc.).

Core Tasks:

  • Develop and implement network backup and recovery procedures.
  • Diagnose network connectivity problems.
  • Establish and maintain network and data flow diagrams.
  • Establish and maintain secure configurations and documented standards for all network devices.
  • Install and maintain network infrastructure device operating system software (g., IOS, firmware).
  • Install, replace, or decommission network firewalls, routers, wireless access points, and switches.
  • Integrate new systems into existing network architecture.
  • Monitor network capacity and performance.
  • Patch network vulnerabilities to ensure that information is safeguarded against outside parties.
  • Provide feedback on network requirements, including network architecture and infrastructure.
  • Provide guidance on network architecture design.
  • Securely configure and optimize network firewalls, routers, wireless access points, and switches.
  • Test and maintain network infrastructure including software and hardware devices.

About You:

  • Ability to execute OS command line (g., ipconfig, netstat, dir, nbtstat).
  • Ability to monitor measures or indicators of system performance and availability.
  • Ability to monitor traffic flows across the network.
  • Ability to operate common network tools and interpret the information collected by network tools (g., Nslookup, Ping, and Traceroute).
  • Ability to operate network equipment including firewalls, routers, wireless access points, switches, and related hardware.
  • Ability to operate the organization's LAN/WAN pathways.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity principles used to manage risks related to the use, processing, storage, and transmission of information or data.
  • Knowledge of how traffic flows across the network (g., TCP/IP, OSI).
  • Knowledge of information technology (IT) security principles and methods (g., firewalls, demilitarized zones, encryption).
  • Knowledge of local area and wide area networking principles and concepts including bandwidth management.
  • Knowledge of network security architecture concepts including topology, protocols, components, and principles (g., application of defense-in-depth).
  • Knowledge of remote access technology concepts.
  • Knowledge of the common attack vectors on the network.
  • Knowledge of Virtual Private Network (VPN) security.
  • Skill in analyzing network traffic capacity and performance characteristics.
  • Skill in configuring and utilizing network protection components (g., Firewalls, VPNs, network intrusion detection systems).
  • Skill in establishing a routing schema.
  • Skill in installing, configuring, and troubleshooting LAN and WAN components.
  • Skill in securing network communications.
  • Skill in sub-netting.
  • 5+ years of experience in network administration.
  • Certifications addressing network device security, network architecture, network infrastructure, access control, cryptography, and organizational security.
