What you will do:

Electra is seeking a dynamic Mechanical Engineering Technician with a strong, hands-on background in the construction and testing of complex mechanical assemblies. The Mechanical Engineering Technician will work closely with the Mechanical Engineering and Test Engineering teams to ensure long service life, low cost, and efficient operation of electrochemical cells and assemblies. The successful candidate will bring a wide array of hand-on expertise to the team, including machine shop skills, basic welding knowledge, and an understanding of quality control and measurement principles.

  • Assemble, test, and continuously improve novel electrochemical cells, stacks and test systems.
  • Perform testing of electrochemical cell components for iterative performance, cost and durability improvements.
  • Utilize SolidWorks to prepare detailed drawings for components manufacture both in house and through outside vendors.
  • Create detailed SOP documents to record the processes used to assemble and test mechanical assemblies.
  • Collaborate with machinists and vendors to resolve quality issues and construct unique jigs and test fixtures.
  • Develop relationships with vendors and provide product specifications to suppliers.
  • Utilize machine shop, welding and fabrication equipment to build specialized components, fixtures and test assemblies

What we need you to bring to the team:

  • 1 year of experience in a Mechanical Technician role or equivalent
  • Proven proficiency in mechanical assembly and fabrication
  • Solid knowledge of machine shop equipment operation and maintenance
  • Basic welding and metal fabrication skills
  • Ability to adapt and find creative solutions to complex problems.
  • Ability to adapt, build, refine, or innovate testing tools to meet project needs.
  • Ability to think critically and an execution/results-oriented mindset.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with a small, dynamic team.

What we want you to bring to the team:

  • Associates or BS in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or equivalent Engineering discipline.
  • Basic proficiency in SolidWorks for design, documentation, and fabrication.
  • Basic understanding of quality principles, concepts, practices, and standards. (ASME Y14.5)

Compensation:

  • The anticipated starting pay range for this position is $25.00 - $35.00 hourly and may be more or less depending upon skills, experience, and education.
