About this role: 

The Civil Engineer will play an integral part of the projects team. The Civil Engineer will report to the Director, Construction Engineering to support the design construction of Heliogen’s facilities. You will work with the Engineering and construction team to design a functional and optimized operating facility. 

In this role, you will: 

Broadly, the civil engineer will work independently and collaborate with engineering firms to design a functional and optimized operating facility. Specific activities may include: 

  • Oversee projects through the full life cycle, with emphasis on early stage project development and development of greenfield sites.
  • Develop civil drawings, foundation drawings, environmental and stormwater prevention and protection plans, roadway design and site grading plans and other deliverables to support FEED package.
  • Provide scopes of work for surveying contractors and other early stage engineering service providers as needed to conduct initial site evaluations
  • Utilize AutoCAD to generate construction design drawings, grading plans, roadway and load requirements, concrete pad and foundation designs and SWPPP plans.
  • Conduct site visits, surveys and inspections, and assist with data collection, compilation and assessment for civil/site infrastructure projects.
  • Review and approval of engineering contractor deliverables such as roadway requirements, compaction requirements, testing, specifications, functionality, etc. 
  • Design scoping and value engineering opportunities. 
  • Interface with other discipline engineers to develop interdisciplinary drawings and specifications
  • Provide construction support, owning transmittals, submittals, and requests for information from construction team.
  • Perform or participate in design, construction and reliability related risk and safety assessments 
  • Site visits may be required (~25% of time) 
  • Work package technical review to support safe and reliable construction, start-up, and commissioning 

What's essential: 

  • BS in Civil Engineering 
  • 7 - 10 years' experience as a civil engineer designing and optimizing construction sites 
  • Proactively resolve any discrepancies in design requirement and able to meet the project schedule
  • Excellent technical and analytical skills, familiar with industrial site design. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills and resourceful 
  • Proven ability to provide construction and civil engineering support for large projects 
  • Experience with ASCE civil design standards.

Desirable: 

  • Professional Engineering license
  • Experience in power, oil & gas, or industrial projects 
  • Previous experience with concentrating solar energy processes 
  • Experience at an electrical distribution facility.
