GreenLight Biosciences is a venture-backed company that has developed a proprietary, scalable process to produce RNA. GreenLight is focused on developing RNA-based agricultural and human health products in an economical, sustainable, and environmentally friendly manner. These products have the potential to radically change the current status quo in both market areas. We are rapidly expanding our Rochester Process Development team and are seeking an exceptional, highly motivated individual to play a key role in development of bench-scale processes and associated analytical procedures to support production of our next RNA-based products. This individual will work closely with the production team at the company, developing and executing a wide range of biochemical processes, and analytical assays for process optimization and product characterization. Strong technical, organizational, and communication skills, along with a commitment to excellence and high-quality work are required.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform biochemical RNA synthesis reactions at scales ranging from 1 mL to 10 L.
  • Contribute to optimization and development of new processes to improve RNA product characteristics and process efficiency.
  • Develop and execute analytical assays to quantify, characterize plasmid DNA and enzymes such as minipreps, activity assays, gel electrophoresis and capillary electrophoresis.
  • Develop and execute analytical methods to identify, quantify, characterize RNA products, and process intermediates such as HPLC, qPCR and plate-based assays.
  • Standardize and automate assays for increased testing throughput.
  • Support the technology transfer of analytical methods between groups within Greenlight.
  • Be accountable for accuracy of data analysis and timely processing of samples.
  • Work collaboratively with other R&D and operations team members to accomplish project goals and milestones.
  • Provide general laboratory assistance including lab equipment maintenance, preparation of reagents, and ordering/receiving of lab supplies.
  • Evaluate lab practices for compliance and operational excellence improvement on a continuous basis.

Qualifications:

  • B.S. or M.S. in chemistry, biochemistry, or equivalent with at least 3 years of experience developing and troubleshooting analytical procedures, preferably at an industrial biotechnology or biopharmaceutical company.
  • Strong background in biochemistry, with knowledge of nucleic acids and proteins
  • Hands-on method development and troubleshooting experience with HPLC/UPLC including Agilent Chemstation, Waters Empower, or similar chromatography data systems is required.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience with plate-based assays, SDS-PAGE, and gel electrophoresis.
  • Familiarity with diverse analytical techniques such as Western Blot, ELISA, qPCR is a plus.
  • Experience with enzyme/biological wet chemistry and experimentation such as DNA extraction, purification of RNA and proteins is desired.
  • Proficiency in using MS Excel and PowerPoint is required. Experience working with electronic lab notebooks, LIMS systems and statistical software (i.e., JMP, Minitab) is desired.
  • Hands-on experience troubleshooting laboratory, process & analytical equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail, problem solving abilities and a willingness to help wherever needed.
  • Ability to achieve and maintain high standards with meticulous attention to detail.
