As a systems engineer for perception safety, your primary responsibility will be to define and ensure the safety performance of the perception system. You will be working in close collaboration with perception algorithm and sensor hardware development teams.
Compensation
There are three major components to compensation for this position: salary, Amazon Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), and Zoox Stock Appreciation Rights. The salary range for this position is $150,000 to $245,000. A sign-on bonus may be offered as part of the compensation package. Compensation will vary based on geographic location and level. Leveling, as well as positioning within a level, is determined by a range of factors, including, but not limited to, a candidate's relevant years of experience, domain knowledge, and interview performance. The salary range listed in this posting is representative of the range of levels Zoox is considering for this position.

In this role, you will:
Perform structured hazard analysis to identify potential causes of safety hazards in the perception system, within the context of the full autonomy driving stackDevelop safety measures that could prevent and mitigate the potential safety hazards caused by perception systems, working in close collaboration with sensing, perception, prediction, and planning teamsAssess and evaluate perception system architectures and design to meet product requirements and achieve safety targetsEstablish safety performance metrics, and develop tools for performance analysis, tracking, and validation of perception systemsSupport and guide the development of verification and validation testing effortsAutomate processes for continuously improving resultsDevelop tools for processing large datasetsQualifications
M.S. or higher degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical, Systems Engineering, or other relevant disciplines.Hazard analysis experience including STPA, FMEA, FTA, etc.3+ years experience with perception system including Vision, Lidar, and RadarStrong analytical skills and 2+ years experience with scripting or programming languages such as Python, Matlab, C++ 2+ years relevant work experience in robotics, aerospace, or automotive engineeringExperience in design or testing and validating high-performance complex systemsCollaborative team player with strong written and in-person communication skillsBonus Qualifications
