As an Intern on BETA’s Electrical Team, you will be an integral part of the rapid prototyping and testing of proof-of-concept and certified aircraft electronics design including inverters, instrumentation, battery management, charging, flight controls, and more. 
Summer Internships are primarily offered May-August.  If your availability is outside of this timeframe, please communicate specifics in your cover letter.

How you will contribute to revolutionizing electric aviation:

  • Conceptualize, design, order, and assemble printed circuit boards for proof-of-concept aircraft. Work with STM and TI processors, DC-DC converters, inverters, batteries, and more!
  • Program embedded systems and test equipment.
  • Support troubleshooting and reworking aircraft-ready electrical equipment, wiring harnesses, and printed circuit boards. Support assembly/soldering R&D circuit boards in-house.
  • Participate in design reviews for complex circuitry.
  • Work closely with the Engineering Team to develop and conduct test plans for circuit boards, motors, batteries, etc. to validate compliance with requirements. Common tests may include hi-pot, vibration tolerance, thermal cycling and environmental exposure, HIRF/lightning, EMI/EMC, power supply line and load regulation, etc.
  • Maintain R&D electronics lab cleanliness and equipment and procure commonly used materials including wire, crimps, heatshrink, etc.
  • Operate required machinery and equipment in a safe manner following established safety requirements in accordance with company and government regulations and guidelines, maintain a neat and clean work area, follow established tool and instrument control procedures, and report any unsafe acts or conditions to team members.

  • Minimum Qualifications we are seeking (your Knowledge, Experience, and Abilities):

  • Pursuing Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s in Electrical Engineering (or a related field) from an accredited University.
  • Previous experience working with printed circuit board assembly/troubleshooting.
  • Demonstrated interest in Electrical Engineering and/or sustainable transportation.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience and ability to operate lab equipment including low and high-voltage power supplies, function generators, oscilloscopes, multimeters, spectrum analyzers, soldering irons, heat guns, crimping tools, etc.
  • Self-motivated, responsible, and willing to ask questions.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Experience with Google G-Suite including Drive, Mail, Calendar, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Charts, Hangouts; Slack.
  • Above and Beyond Qualifications that will distinguish you (preferred qualifications):

  • Involvement in Electrical Engineering and/or Aerospace clubs (CubeSat, Rocket, EV ex: Formula SAE electric racing club) or self-starting electronics personal projects.
  • Programming experience in C/C++, Python, Matlab, Arduino, CubeMX.
  • Experience with Molex connector series (Microfit, Nanofit, Minifit, Duraclick), Mil-Spec 38999-style connectors, etc.
  • Experience building wiring harnesses (aircraft harnesses preferred).
