As a Mechanical Engineer for the SPARC Vacuum Vessel team, the Structural Engineer - Vessel will perform thermal, structural, and electromagnetic analysis using hand calculations and finite element method. They will develop design notes and might also support issue resolution during the manufacture and assembly of the vessel and the components attached to it.

This team member will:

  • Perform thermal, structural, and electromagnetic analysis using ANSYS
  • Produce design concepts using NX
  • Provide technical support during the manufacturing
  • Support the resolution of technical issues that arise during the manufacturing and installation
  • Perform proof of principle and hand calculations as necessary to confirm the validity of the analysis
  • Prepare reports and presentations as requested
  • The ideal candidate will have most, if not all, of these requirements:

  • At least a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, physics, or another relevant field
  • Proficiency in performing structural finite element analysis
  • Familiarity with basic machining techniques, welding processes and current, general fabrication concepts.
  • Some background in using CAD
  • Additional preferred experience and/or qualifications:

  • ANSYS
  • NX
  • Python scripting to pre / post analysis results
  • Electromagnetic modelling
  • Perform activities such as typing and sitting for extended periods of time
  • Willingness to travel or work required nights/weekends/on-call occasionally
