Role Description
We are looking for an experienced battery engineer to join Form Energy’s Electrode Development Team, designing and developing a critical component of Form Energy’s multi-day storage system. You  will prepare, characterize, and test new electrode materials   with a small team of direct reports, consisting of material engineers, battery engineers and test engineers. You will develop and coordinate characterization efforts using internal instruments, as well as manage relationships with external characterization contractors. This is an opportunity to have a direct and daily impact in an exciting energy technology startup, with the opportunity for growth into a full time managerial role

What You'll Do:

  • Evaluate Form’s anode electrode performance using custom designed test apparatus and electronic test equipment (e.g. battery cyclers, potentiostats)
  • Lead a team of 2-3 material / test / battery engineers, propose project plans and execute accordingly
  • Collaborate with material scientists to improve electrode performance, optimize electrode structure+properties to meet target cost and performance metrics
  • Perform root cause failure analysis to understand and mitigate electrode degradation and decay mechanisms
  • Create, validate, and author standard operating procedures for new, routine characterization efforts
  • Manage testing pipeline and improve the experimental protocols to enable higher-throughput data collection
  • Interpret ex-situ characterization (i.e., SEM, EDS, ICP, XRD, BET, TGA, DSC) data and collaborate with external specialists and consultants to accelerate materials development
  • Understand and participate in co-optimization of electrolyte and anode materials for optimal system-level performance
  • What You'll Bring:

  • Strong communication skills within a group of peers and broader organization including with remote team members
  • Experience in leading a small team
  • BS or advanced degree in Chemical engineering, Electrochemistry, Material science, or a related field
  • 8+ years experience building and testing electrochemical systems (graduate school time accepted as experience)
  • Has practical experience with electrochemical science and systems, particularly at the full-scale and module level
  • Enjoys a fast-paced work environment
  • Experience using cloud based organizational tools is a plus
  • Experience with python is a plus
  • Experience with JMP or statistical analysis software is a plus
