What success will look like for you, as a Senior Systems Test  Engineer ( HIL)?

As a Senior Systems Test Engineer (HIL) you will be responsible for designing and developing test equipment and machinery for certification of aircraft hardware and systems. The work will involve gathering test rig requirements, selecting / designing solutions, and driving the build and commissioning of the rig. You will be responsible for designing electrical systems including HV and LV networks, safety systems, instrumentation, control networks etc. You will develop test rig software, human machine interfaces and data management systems to perform tests and manage safety systems.

Working closely with the Test Development Engineers you will integrate real-time computers to enable Hardware in the Loop testing of real aircraft systems. Rigs include propulsion test and whole-aircraft system test assets.

You will be working with a variety of engineering teams and will work closely with Integration and Test Engineers during commissioning and operation of new test rigs. You will be a role model for the company’s safety-first culture, determining safety provisions required for rig operations and mentoring others within the company to ensure knowledge is shared.

The successful candidate will be able to work in dynamic innovative teams, building positive working environments and diplomatically resolving challenges to programme delivery.  Some elements of “hands on” work will be expected, with the assistance of our skilled technicians.

The Senior Systems Test Engineer reports to the System Test IPT Lead and will be a key member of the system test team, supporting the continued development of our in-house expertise, specialist knowledge and capabilities.

What we would like you to bring.

We want you to be successful in your role and to achieve this you will need to have completed either a Bachelor’s or a Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent) and have at least 3 years’ experience within an automation for test environment. You will be an electrical engineer specialising in controls, instrumentation, and automation, and have a sound theoretical understanding of power distribution, low voltage circuits, safety circuits, sensors and actuators, motors and drives, DAQ, bus-communication and integration of these complex sub-systems.

You should have a working knowledge of relevant electrical standards such as IEC 60204 and either ISO13849-1 & -2 or IEC 61508. You should possess an understanding of common digital communication protocols (CANbus, ARINC 429 etc) and analogue-to-digital conversion for various sensor/IO types.

Some of the desirable but not essential skills are: skilled EPLAN user, familiar with Atlassian tools such as Confluence and Jira, MATLAB/Simulink, LabVIEW, Python, C++. Experience with data acquisition systems such as Speedgoat, National Instruments, RT-Opal or dSPACE and with GE Reflective Memory would be advantageous.
