Ore Energy is developing the next generation of long-duration energy storage to enable a fully renewable power system. Our iron-air battery technology stores electricity for up to 100 hours, making it possible to keep grids running through multi-day periods of low wind and sun.
Unlike conventional batteries, our systems use abundant, non-toxic materials: iron, air, and water. This makes them safe, cost-effective, and scalable without relying on scarce minerals or fragile supply chains. When charging, the battery converts rust into metallic iron. When discharging, it reverses the reaction, consuming oxygen and producing rust again. This simple, proven chemistry has the potential to deliver energy at a fraction of the cost of other storage technologies.
Founded at TU Delft in the Netherlands, Ore Energy is focused on real-world deployment. In 2025, we connected the world's first iron-air battery to the grid in Delft. This milestone demonstrated that multi-day storage can be integrated directly into modern energy systems.
As countries expand renewable generation, the challenge of balancing supply and demand is becoming urgent. We believe long-duration storage is a critical part of the solution and that it must be safe, sustainable, and affordable at scale.
Ore Energy’s mission is clear: to store renewable energy anywhere, for as long as needed, using materials that are available to everyone. By combining deep electrochemistry expertise with practical engineering, we are turning one of Earth’s most abundant resources into a cornerstone of the clean energy transition.

The role
Company Overview
Ore Energy is on a mission to fundamentally expand the amount of energy society can reliably harness and use, helping move civilization toward a more abundant energy future. We are doing this by developing long-duration, utility-scale iron-air batteries that provide safe, low-cost, multi-day energy storage for electricity grids and data centers. Our technology is designed to enable renewable power to become a dependable source of energy at scale, supporting the transition to a cleaner, more resilient and more electrified world.
Ore Energy has built significant momentum toward commercial deployment. The company has raised a significant amount of investment from leading European investors, demonstrated its technology under real-world utility conditions, and is now moving toward large-scale commercial deployments.
Role Overview
We are expanding our industrialization capabilities and are looking for a Senior Process Engineer to join our Factory Engineering team in Amsterdam. Operating as a technical leader at the intersection of process design, equipment procurement, and high-volume production scaling, you will play a pivotal role in translating complex product requirements into stable, efficient, and safe manufacturing solutions.
In this role, you will take full technical ownership of a core set of manufacturing process steps, bridging the gap between R&D and mass production. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional stakeholders and international equipment suppliers to define process parameters, establish engineering methodologies, and lead vendor fulfillment through installation and commissioning. As a senior member of the team, you will lead by example, mentoring junior engineers and driving a culture of best practices. This is a hands-on, execution-heavy discipline leadership role in a fast-paced, early factory design environment that requires a structured problem solver comfortable navigating ambiguity.
This role reports to Axel Save, Head of Factory Engineering.
Key responsibilities
- Process Ownership & Scale-Up: Own, develop and optimize an assigned set of manufacturing processes within the company’s first commercial production plant (e.g. mixing, calendering/pressing, assembly or other core processes). Experience in any such relevant area is a strong plus.
- Methodology & Standards Creation: Drive development of process engineering methodologies, standardization frameworks and practical Ways of Working for factory execution, scaling and project delivery.
- Discipline Leadership: Provide technical and practical support to junior team members, leading by example and help establish a cross-functional culture of best practices within the realm of process engineering.
- Design & Delivery: Design, develop and deliver technical solutions for the assigned scope; enabling safe and efficient manufacturing. Lead cross-functional collaboration, both internal and external, from design to optimized manufacturing.
- Design for Manufacturing (DFM) & Technical Documentation: Translate complex product and design requirements into stable, repeatable and scalable production solutions; bridge the gap between R&D and mass production. This includes equipment specifications and comprehensive technical documentation.
- Supplier & Equipment Management: Lead equipment selection within assigned scope and ensure vendor fulfilment of milestones such as FAT/SAT, installation and commissioning.
Your profile
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical, Process or Industrial Engineering, or a related engineering field.
- Experience: 7-10 years of experience in mechanical, process, or manufacturing engineering roles within heavy industrial or advanced production environments (battery, energy storage or automotive experience is highly valued).
- Project Delivery: Proven track record of leading process engineering projects and taking technical ownership of complex manufacturing lines from conceptual design through to commissioning and stable high-volume production.
- Methodological Expertise: Strong foundation in creating and implementing engineering methodologies, and utilizing structured problem-solving tools.
- Vendor Management: Deep practical experience in defining equipment specifications, managing international equipment suppliers and overseeing equipment acceptance testing.
- Mindset: Structured, collaborative mentor and problem solver, highly comfortable leading through ambiguity and driving results in a fast-paced, rapidly evolving environment (startup or scale-up experience is a strong plus).
