Senior Mechanical Design Engineer – System Installation

Your role and your team:

 

You will report directly to the Engineering Lead responsible for the System Installation design within the Structures and Interior Design Organization. The Structures and Interior Design organization is the engineering team within the Lilium engineering organization responsible for the development of the Aircraft structure, such as the Fuselage or the Wing system as well as the Interior of the Lilium Jet. The team is supporting the development across the entire life cycle - from concept through to detailed design, testing and into serial production.

As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer for System Installation, you are responsible for the design of the installation of various aircraft systems into the airframe. From packaging concepts to detailed design and selection of required installation hardware and airframe modifications you'll play a key role in bringing our innovative aircraft to life.

Your Day to Day:

  • Define systems installation locations in the aircraft in accordance with the systems requirements
  • Using Siemens NX, design required hardware to mechanically install the system in the intended location and select appropriate standard parts
  • Propose designs and design changes to the airframe to enable system installation
  • Liase with system owners, stress engineers, EWIS engineers and other relevant stakeholders for multidisciplinary optimization of system installation design
  • Check and approve technical 2D drawings for manufacturing release
  • Manage the design data of the systems and system installations in Teamcenter
  • Support manufacturing, assembly and installation at our FAL
  • Manage and coordinate suppliers
  • Work on any ad hoc related projects or tasks
  • Constantly learn new things – and share them with your team members

Your Profile:

  • University degree in Aerospace Engineering or Mechanical/Vehicle Engineering (aerospace specialization, MSc/M.Eng preferred)
  • Minimum of 8 years of professional experience in the aerospace industry is required
  • Detailed and in depth knowledge of metallic structures and their design principles is required, knowledge of composite structures and their design principles is beneficial
  • Good knowledge of a CAD system is required (Siemens NX is preferred)
  • Good knowledge of ISO GPS (alternatively ASME GD&T) and overall good drafting skills are required
  • Basic knowledge with PDM/PLM systems (Teamcenter or equivalent) is beneficial
  • Basic knowledge of analytical stress analysis is beneficial
  • Experience in requirements based engineering beneficial
  • Good knowledge of thermal and electrical engineering principles is beneficial
  • High level of self-reliance with the ability to work in a team, as well as autonomously is required
  • Target-oriented, driven work style with analytic problem-solving skills is required
  • Ability and willingness to thrive in a fast-paced, rapidly changing work environment is required
  • Fluent English language skills are essential, fluent German or any other language is beneficial
