The Power Electronics Design Engineer is responsible for the development of innovative electric aircraft systems from design through test/validation.

As a Power Electronics Design Engineer at BETA Technologies, you will work with the team to rapidly develop new technologies for our electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft.

You will be expected to leverage your past experience and supplement with new knowledge gained through research and experimentation as you design, build, and validate critical devices throughout the aircraft powertrain. 

You will have development, modeling, and analysis tools at your disposal to help you ensure that your designs are meeting or exceeding all design, safety, and regulatory requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design control circuits for power electronics, including component selection
  • Simulation and analysis of digital, analog, and power circuits
  • Model power devices and systems in MATLAB/Simulink
  • Design and build prototypes and run experiments to validate future designs
  • Understand certification requirements 
  • Develop test plans for verification of new and updated designs, work with team to perform these tests
  • Review and analyze test results and suggest design improvements

  • Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Power Engineering or another Engineering degree with strong Electrical Design focus from an accredited University
  • Exposure to electric powertrains and the associated power electronics
  • A strong foundation of power electronics design and problem-solving skills
  • Experience with MATLAB and Simulink
  • 1+ years of professional experience in power electronics testing 
  • Well organized, communicative, disciplined team player
  • Familiarity with Google G-Suite including drive, mail, calendar, docs, sheets, slides, charts, hangouts; Slack, application lifecycle 
  • Familiar with testing software and equipment such as LabView, digital signal generator, Oscilloscopes, etc
