Ecovative's MycoComposite technology binds sustainable materials together with mycelial fibers to produce biodegradable Mushroom® Packaging and eco-friendly building materials. 

The Packaging Design Specialist combines customer needs and product/material constraints to design and create an effective product. for partner commercialization. This role will self-directed, process-driven, design and prototype molded shapes out of our home-compostable Mushroom® Packaging material and help bring prospective customers into production. The Commercial Packaging Design Specialist is a detail-oriented designer that can interact well with customers and our manufacturing team, working closely with prototyping team in all activities surrounding tooling development that support the successful implementation of new custom parts into production for both internal Mushroom® Packaging team as well as current and future partners. Relentlessly pursues continuous improvement and optimization to successfully implement new custom designs into production; ensures all designs comply with requirements and best practices and product specifications are met with cost effective, innovative and reliable solutions optimized for Mushroom® Packaging production and packing methods. 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: 

Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Science, Engineering, Industrial Design, Architecture, or related field with a minimum of three (3) years of product design experience.  In lieu of a degree, must have a minimum of five (5) years of packaging design experience.

Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills:

  • Experience with CAD software (SolidWorks, Fusion360, Rhino, Pro/E, or similar), Fusion360 preferred
  • Experience with thermoforming and design for manufacturability
  • Experience with CNC machining and CAM software
  • Understanding of 3D geometry, shaping and basic materials science
  • Passion for hands on work with machines that take your design and bring it to production
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt quickly and learn new job functions
  • Must be comfortable mechanically and using power tools
  • Comfortable working on a manufacturing floor
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and work on many projects at once through excellent time and project management skills
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Sense of urgency
  • Highly organized and proactive
  • Exceptionally adaptable to changing priorities and customer requests
  • Able to prioritize a wide variety of deliverables and tasks
  • Efficient, and process improvement oriented
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to manage input from a variety of stakeholders
