About the company:
We are building something never done before.
Helion is a fusion power company based in Everett, WA, with the mission to build the world’s first fusion power plant, enabling a future with unlimited clean electricity.
We are a team of engineers, scientists, and makers that believe fusion energy can solve climate change on a global scale and ensure energy independence while making electricity more affordable than ever before.
Now is a great time to join Helion! Bring your skills, experiences, and determination to make a difference in the world. Together, we can make a future with unlimited clean electricity from fusion a reality!
What You Will Be Doing:
We are hiring a Multi Physics Simulation Engineer to oversee interdisciplinary analyses of high-field electromagnet designs and other structural designs required for Helion's fusion generator prototypes. You will solve tough, diverse problems that are critical to demonstrating the viability of fusion energy, while also laying the groundwork for high-reliability commercialized hardware. You will report directly to our Mechanical Engineering Manager at our Everett, WA office.
You Will:
• Oversee and improve Helion's analysis workflow for primary structures and top-level structural analysis
• Run transient structural finite-element models to write margins for critical designs
• Collaborate with a many-sided engineering team to improve hardware designs
• Learn from in-house experts to expand your skillset into electrical and thermal analysis
• Perform hands-on testing to correlate and improve structural, electrical, and thermal analysis
Required Skills:
• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, with 3+ years of hands-on engineering experience
• Experience using nonlinear finite element modeling analysis techniques to calculate structural performance margins, improve design cycle iteration time, and push for impactful design changes
• Experience taking complex analysis problems from formulation through hardware testing and model correlation
• Ability to positively improve complex structural designs, rather than just work on analysis
• Experience with structural finite-element analysis using tools such as ANSYS and FEMAP
• Expert level understanding of solid mechanics and structural dynamics (modal, transient)
• Experience using principles of fatigue, crack initiation, and propagation to prevent failures
