Role Description
As the Engineering Manager of the Mechanical Engineering R&D team, you will lead a growing and highly collaborative group responsible for meeting the design and development needs of the entire Cell Development team and adjacent teams.

Members of the R&D Engineering team are a multidisciplinary group of mechanical and electromechanical engineers that scope, design, fabricate, prototype, instrument, and analyze hardware with teams developing Form's fundamental technology. In addition, this role will facilitate gathering engineering support requests across Cell Development teams, execution of deliverables, and communication of this process internally and externally.

The ideal candidate will be experienced in hardware product development processes and drive best practices throughout, from requirements generation to design standards and product validation. Additionally, the ideal candidate will have prior experience managing direct reports, growing a well-rounded engineering team, and conducting performance reviews. We're looking for an empathetic manager who wants to develop a team, drive technology development, and lead the hands-on design and prototyping work.

What You'll Do:

  • Manage and grow a world-class, multidisciplinary engineering team that delivers on critical objectives advancing Form Energy's cell development efforts, including electrode and electrolyte development, component integration, and performance optimization
  • Partner with colleagues across Form Energy to determine and drive technology development priorities
  • Drive technology development processes, guiding and mentoring engineers from concept through delivery
  • Lead best practice development, from design processes through engineering tool selection and industry standards application
  • Foster the development of Form's engineers through live coaching, technical training, review processes, and informal support
  • What You'll Bring:

  • Passion for our mission, sustainability, and climate change
  • Bachelor's (Master's preferred) in Mechanical Engineering or similar discipline
  • 5+ years of experience developing mechanical 
  • Hardware multidisciplinary engineering experience preferred
  • 2+ years of experience managing direct reports
  • Strong technical communication skills, from internal coordination to external alignment
  • A pragmatic, creative and proactive approach to problem-solving, adaptability, and ability to lead, manage, and work hands-on 
  • Experience in quick-turn startup environments is a plus
  • Preferred to have a background in the engineering design of batteries, fuel cells, or electrolysis, their subscale test devices, or other relevant fields
