We are currently seeking an Intern motivated by the application of control theory to achieve desired vehicle dynamics. In this role, you will have the opportunity to build simulation and test frameworks that aid in developing state-of-the-art control systems that elevate vehicle ride and handling attributes via the actuation of motors, brakes, and suspension systems. Our ideal candidate exhibits a can-do attitude and approaches problem-solving with vigor and determination. Candidates will be expected to demonstrate excellence in their respective fields, to possess the ability to learn quickly, and to strive for perfection within a fast-paced environment.
The hourly range for internships specific to the location is $28/hr-$68/hr and is the range Lucid reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for the position taking into account: degree level and job-specific domain. Role/Responsiblities:Application of concepts in control theory to a variety of domains like handling dynamics, ride dynamics, and NVH to achieve desired vehicle attributesApplication of linear analysis techniques and frequency domain analysisDevelop simulation tools that enable objective decision-making for control system architectures, calibration, and formulating requirementsTest the developed software on the vehicle and assist in the calibration of the featuresOccasional travel for vehicle testing
Preferred Qualifications: Previously taken classes or enrolled in classical and discrete control systemsBasic knowledge of model-based design using Matlab/Simulink/StateflowBasic understanding of vehicle handling and ride dynamicsWorking knowledge of chassis hardware such as dampers, springs, anti-roll bars, brakes, steering, etc.
Field(s) of study: Electrical Engineering, Automotive Systems, Mechanical Engineering or related fieldsWill consider undergrads Junior level or above Pursuing Bachelor’s or master's degree Proof of enrollment in current or into next program (MS, PhD)
Nice to Have:Good understanding of state estimation and sensor fusion techniquesKnowledge of adaptive filtering is advantageousExperience with CAN analysis tools like CANoe, CANalyzer, and CANapeExperience with performance driving is a plus
Timing: May-August, or June-September pending class schedules.
Duration of Internship: Our internship program is 12 weeks; the end date is flexible based on individual needs.
Work Location & Environment: This position will be in Newark, CA, and is fully in-person. The working environment will be a mix of lab & office work.
Compensation: Student compensation is based on location and current degree level, non-negotiable.
Visa Sponsorship: Lucid may but is not obligated to sponsor foreign national employees requiring company sponsorship for U.S. employment authorization.
Relocation: One round trip flight to the assigned work location from/to permanent residence.
Housing/Transportation: You must provide your own living arrangements and transportation in the local area.
