About the company:

At SPAN, we believe that powering homes with clean energy should be a simple and delightful experience that is technology-forward and human-centered.

SPAN is advancing clean energy adoption with innovative hardware that replaces the electrical panel and becomes the home's center for connected power. It’s easier and faster to install, and it completely transforms the customer experience with intuitive energy controls and customizable backup power.

Our Mission
SPAN develops products that accelerate the rapid adoption of renewable energy in the home. The flagship SPAN Smart Panel is the first true evolution for the traditional home electric panel, harnessing enhanced technology for metering, monitoring, and control. An expanded product suite of intelligent, integrated solutions radically lowers the cost and complexity of energy upgrades–including solar, batteries, and EVs–empowering homeowners to be active, resilient, and informed players in the energy market.
The Role
The SPAN engineering team is made of experienced, passionate people with expertise in electronics, mechanical design, energy systems, and embedded software. We are seeking a passionate electrical engineering student to join the hardware development team of SPAN. As an electrical engineering intern, you will apply your knowledge of electrical and PCB design and manufacturing processes to assist SPAN’s hardware design, testing, and manufacturing efforts.
 In this role, you will:
  • Create mechanical design concepts for various products (Plastics, Metal, and Glass) and develop these in 3D CAD
  • Coordinate with different internal and external stakeholders to ensure project completion
  • Build prototype components and assemblies and perform tests related to compliance, environmental, and reliability with appropriate documentation for the same
  • Create detailed 2D drawings using GD&T when applicable
  • Work with contract manufacturers to have parts made to specification, to improve quality and yield
  • Provide mechanical engineering support for both new product development activities as well as factory support of existing products through testing and creating manufacturing fixtures
About You

  • Working towards a BS or MS in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • Successfully completed introductory-level courses in analog and digital circuit design.
  • Able to write and analyze design documentation.
  • Excited about digging into complex problems and seeing them through to solution
  • Passionate about renewable energy and energy storage.

Bonus Qualifications
We would love to hire someone who has:
  • Experience designing for solar or renewable energy applications
  • Hands-on experience with mixed signal circuit design including tests and simulations
  • Experience running, environmental testing or reliability testing.
  • Knowledge of high-volume manufacturing processes and materials
