Brimstone is on a mission to transform heavy industry, starting with cement—an essential sector responsible for 7.5% of global CO2 emissions. Our team developed an efficient, economical, and deeply decarbonized process to produce portland cement, supplementary cementitious materials (SCM) and smelter grade alumina. The Brimstone process leverages the power of co-production and a carbon-free feedstock to deliver the same industry-standard products trusted by builders for generations.

Brimstone was founded in 2019 to stop and reverse the effects of climate change through the production of carbon-neutral Portland cement and supplementary cementitious materials, regardless of the energy source. The cement/concrete industry is a $1T market responsible for 5.5% of GHG or approximately 7.5% of global CO2 emissions. This is the same amount of emissions released by the cars we drive daily. Increased concentrations of greenhouse gases in our atmosphere not only pose a threat to all living things on earth but have a disproportionate impact on disadvantaged communities. 

Through the revolutionary work from our world-class team of scientists and engineers, we are inventing a new process to make ordinary Portland cement and supplementary cementitious materials that is carbon-negative and will be at cost-parity (preferably lower-cost). Our team has made remarkable progress over the last few years and we are looking to scale up!

You will be supporting operational projects, driving key commercialization decisions, and help developing our go-to-market strategy. We are looking for an extern to join our team for ~6 months to work on special projects. Note that we have the same expectations of our externs as of any full-time team member.

·         Engage in special projects that work with many functions - e.g., business development, policy, communications, people team, cement engineering, and R&D

·         Support the COO and Sr Director of Finance, Strategy and Business Development in solving near-term issues that arise in the course of operating the day-to-day business

·         Potential projects could include:

·         Structuring R&D co-development partnerships with external organizations

·         Developing our long-term international growth strategy

·         Supporting critical R&D strategic decisions and projects

·         Expanding our understanding the cement and carbon markets

 

·         Genuine interest and enthusiasm for saving the planet from climate disaster, addressing issues that impact disadvantaged communities, and/or advancing human knowledge through technological advancement

·         An interest in carbon dioxide removal or carbon trading markets

·         2-5 years of strategy, operations or research experience

·         Experience in impact strategy, management consulting, and business operations (optional but appreciated)

·         Proven track record independently developing detailed, meaningful strategic recommendations

·         Robust modeling skills

·         Open minded and a self-starter attitude, with a can-do mentality in a complex, ambiguous environment

·         Strong communication skills, ability to present and influence executive team to drive consensus

·         Ability to be a creative problem solver who will leave no stone unturned

Salary Range: $94,000 - $125,000
