Tokamak Energy operates within a matrix structure with technical teams supporting several programmes, projects and ad-hoc engineering tasks. Forming part of the wider Technical Engineering team, as an Engineering Technician, you will utilise existing skills whilst developing new skills and experience to support a variety of projects and tasks as required across the business to align with business priorities and milestones. 

You will need to be a flexible, highly motivated team player requiring low supervision and have broad based engineering experience. 

 Main Duties and Responsibilities  

  • Involvement in specification and design of required equipment 
  • Mechanical fabrication and installation 
  • Support system installations when required. 
  • General engineering support to scientists and engineers across numerous projects, programmes, and tasks 
  • Keep the Technical Engineering group management team updated on work progress both verbally and using the daily feedback form.  
  • Helping to keep a tidy work environment through using the correct recycling streams to enable the company to reach its environmental targets.  
  • Ensuring all tooling is kept in good condition and any shortfalls identified are reported.  
  • Collaborate with other team members and contractors on large-scale projects, ensuring effective coordination and completion of tasks. 
  • Take responsibility for upkeep of area that you are working within, including identification of safety risks and restocking materials when required. 
  • A strong focus on teamwork in a fast-paced environment.   

Requirements

  • Experience in mechanical fitting/repair/upgrade 
  • Experience and able to read and work from drawings/schematics. 
  •   A flexible/agile approach to daily tasks 
  •   Good initiative with ability to solve problems. 
  •   Good communications skills across all levels 
  •   Acting as a good role model, always representing company values. 
  • Possess a good understanding of and attitude toward Health & Safety requirements. 
  • Basic IT skills using Windows based operating system. 

Desirable: 

  • Eng Tech, IEng or working towards 
  • Rigging and slinging experience 
  • Forklift licence 
  • Crane licence 
  • MEWP/IPAF 3A & 3B licenced. 
  • PASMA trained. 
  • PAT qualified 
  • First Aid training 
  • Machining (Manual/CNC) 
  • Welding, brazing, silver soldering experience 
  • Cryogenic handling 
  • UHV Vacuum systems 
  • Instrumentation and experimental support experience. 
  • Time served Apprentice. 

Hazard-specific / Safety-critical duties  

This job includes the following hazards or safety-critical activities which will require successful pre-employment health screening through our occupational health service before the successful candidate will be allowed to start work: 

  • Working at height (ladders, scissor lifts, cherry pickers & scaffolding)  
  • Work in hot or cold environments 
  • Regular manual handling 
  • Use of welding equipment 
  • Use of lathes, milling machines, band saws, pillar drills or other large workshop machinery (operators must prove competence prior to use. 
  • Work with cryogenic fluids including liquid nitrogen. 
  • Working with or in the vicinity of equipment that produces high magnetic fields.  
  • Working with materials that are managed under the control of substances hazardous to health regulations (COSHH)
