Working arrangements

Please note this role does offer hybrid working, our model sets out a minimum 60% onsite / 40% home working split.

Overview

This role is responsible for one major project or multiple projects to deliver on time, to quality, and on budget. You will collaborate with the technical lead to generate milestone-based, integrated plans (timing and resource) for the successful delivery of project objectives. You will also continually track progress and report regularly to the Programme Manager to whom you will report.

Responsibilities

  • Integrate with business, operational and technical teams and proactively lead the project team, collaborators and suppliers to successfully deliver assigned project(s).
  • Promote adherence to safe working practices in the delivery of project objectives.
  • Generate deliverables-based, integrated plans (timing and resource) to set timelines for the successful delivery of project objectives to quality, time and cost targets.
  • Seek out and promote smarter and more efficient ways of delivering the project against business milestones.
  • Lead and direct team workload reviews and supplier meetings. Document and distribute key notes and actions.
  • Lead preparation, submission and presentation of project status reports and project gateway documentation for review with the programme manager.
  • Identify and manage project risks by leading risk management for the project(s) and liaise with key stakeholders to ensure suitable mitigation plans are in place. Preform the role of risk manager and escalate to the programme manager when required.
  • Proactively coordinate cross-business discussions to ensure time, cost, quality or scope changes are managed in accordance with the change management process.
  • Manage project contracts in collaboration with supply chain and commercial teams.
  • Through the project lifecycle and in collaboration with the PMO and resource managers, continue to evaluate resource demand, budget forecast and load capacity.
  • Lead lessons-learned sessions and ensure outputs are captured and shared appropriately.
  • Ensure potential quality issues are considered and mitigated in advance and built into process or managed with the appropriate teams or suppliers.
  • Actively work within the PMO to evolve processes and tools through continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • Degree qualified/apprenticeship in project management or a STEM field [if not academically qualified, possess extensive practical experience to demonstrate appropriate PM skills and capability].
  • Demonstrate experience in delivering complex technology/technical product projects.
  • Be a self-starter and demonstrate ability & resilience to work in a fast-changing environment and cope with volatility, uncertainty complexity and ambiguity.
  • Be a skilful communicator & facilitator and demonstrate experience interfacing with scientific and engineering teams.
  • Be a strong integrator and cross-organisational collaborator.
  • Show the potential to motivate across the organisation through the application of strong interpersonal and influencing skills.
  • Recognise the need to balance short-term project delivery milestones with long-term programme benefit; demonstrate an understanding of the need to have a golden thread between strategic objectives and individual technical tasks.
  • Possess strong decision-making, problem-solving, planning/scheduling, and organisational skills.
  • Demonstrate project resource management skills: demand generation, allocation, and actuals accounting [evidence of high degrees of competence with resource management software tools will be assessed as a differentiator]
  • Knowledge and experience of multiple project management methodologies.
  • Experience using Microsoft Project, Agile or similar project management software tools.

Desirable skills:

  • Evidence of commitment to professional recognition (e.g. Associate Member or Member of the Association for Project Management, or equivalent).
  • Be qualified in at least one of PRINCE2, APM PMQ, PRINCE2 Agile, AgilePM® Practitioner v3, or PMI Agile Certified Practitioner.
