What you will do:
Electra is seeking an experienced Senior Sustainability Professional to lead regulatory permitting processes in both Colorado and future plant sites, as well as community engagement efforts for our current and future plant development projects. This individual will initially focus on securing and managing permits and developing a community relations strategy for both our Colorado and future plant sites, supporting their development from early permitting through construction and operations. As Electra expands globally, this role will evolve to support permitting and stakeholder engagement for commercial plants worldwide, offering significant opportunities for professional growth and global impact.
Key Responsibilities:
Permitting Strategy & Execution
- Thoroughly understanding the regulatory requirements within each jurisdiction of Plant development.
- Developing a permitting strategy for both the Colorado and future plant locations.
- Lead the planning, preparation, and submission of permit applications for both the Colorado and future plant and future facilities, including expansions and supporting infrastructure.
- Coordinate environmental and regulatory assessments to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal requirements.
- Liaise with internal teams (operations, engineering, legal, commercial) and approved external consultants to ensure technical completeness and accuracy of submissions.
Regulatory Interface
- Serve as the primary point of contact with regulatory agencies to manage permit reviews, responses to information requests, inspections, and conditions of approval.
- Monitor regulatory changes and assess implications for current and future projects, both domestic and international.
Community Engagement & Stakeholder Relations
- In collaboration with Operations, develop a robust engagement strategy.
- Develop and implement community engagement plans that foster trust, transparency, and long-term relationships.
- Facilitate meetings, site visits, and dialogue with Indigenous groups, local municipalities, landowners, and other stakeholders.
- Address concerns and inquiries from the public regarding environmental, social, and health-related impacts of project development.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain records of all permits, correspondence, and engagement activities.
- Prepare reports and briefings for internal and external stakeholders.
- Track permit timelines, conditions, and compliance requirements.
- Read, understand, and comply with all workplace health and safety policies, safe work practices, and company policies and procedures
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor
What we need you to bring to the team (Requirements):
- Bachelor's degree in environmental science, Planning, Public Policy, or a related field .
- 12+ years of relevant experience in permitting, regulatory affairs, and/or community engagement, ideally within the industrial, energy, infrastructure, or resource sectors.
- Experience with greenfield industrial or plant projects.
- In-depth knowledge of permitting frameworks (e.g., environmental assessments, air/water permits, land use approvals).
- Demonstrated experience working with Indigenous communities and public engagement processes.
- Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and stakeholders.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal abilities.
- Ability to travel to project sites and community meetings as needed, including international travel over time.

- Familiarity with ESG frameworks and impact assessments.
- Bilingual or multilingual abilities (especially in French or Indigenous languages) is an asset.

Compensation:
- This position's anticipated starting pay range is $155,000-$175,000 a year and may be more or less depending upon skills, experience, and education.
