ABOUT THE ROLE...
We are looking for a dynamic and proactive Computational Scientist with a demonstrated track record to join our fast-growing team at Inari Ghent. The Computational Scientist will be responsible for designing, implementing, executing, and coordinating computational projects and will report directly to the Managing Director. The incumbent will contribute to experimental design, interpret and analyze data produced in various projects, draw conclusions and make recommendations to the teams. She/he will also contribute to the development of new scientific project proposals in his or her area of expertise. She/he will be able to clearly communicate scientific results to different audiences and will be responsible for managing specific third-party collaborations.
The right candidate must be able to take initiative, be efficient, and be well organized to deliver high-quality results on time. Excellent communication skills are essential for this role as part of an interdisciplinary team. The incumbent must enjoy a "start-up" atmosphere and be able to take responsibility, show good judgment and be willing to take on additional tasks and responsibilities as needed to achieve goals and deliverables. Key Responsibilities:
● The Computational Scientist will be responsible for designing, implementing, executing, and coordinating computational projects.
● Assist with the new hire process for incoming personnel.
● Train and instruct other staff members to use specific software when needed.
● Work with Research Assistants and other Scientists to execute scientific experiments related to one or more projects
● Manage third-party collaborations
● Scout for new technologies and partners
● Maintain detailed, accurate, and comprehensible records of all experiments and results
● Analyze and interpret data, draw conclusions, and make recommendations
● (co-)Develop new scientific project proposals
● Communicate results in written and oral presentations
Required Skills/Experience:
● Ph.D. or Master's with at least five years of experience in Computational Biology/Biotechnology or a similar field is required
● Expert in quantitative genetics (GWAS, QTL)
● Good knowledge of statistics (experimental design, mixed models, statistical data analysis, …) and fluent in R & Bioconductor
● Experienced in the analysis of Next Generation Sequencing data (RNAseq) is a plus
● Strong expertise in R & Bioconductor is a must. Knowledge of additional programming languages (Python, Julia, …) is a plus.
● Demonstrated scientific leadership to independently design, implement, coordinate and drive successful outcomes in scientific projects
● Strong record of independent research supported by peer-reviewed publications and/or patents
● Excellent written and verbal communication skills specially adapted to the needs of a non-computational target audience
● Ability to thrive and deliver results on goals in a fast-paced, dynamic, and highly multi-tasking environment
● Pro-active, highly motivated, and strong team player with a high degree of independence
● Demonstrated creative, innovative, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
