ABOUT THE ROLE…

We are looking for two molecular biology summer interns currently enrolled in an B.S. (junior/senior), M.S. or Ph.D. program with experience in protein biochemistry and characterization methods to help our team develop interaction proteomics assays in plants and in vitro. These assays are a pillar in a comprehensive “model-assay-data' approach to construct and validate protein interaction networks underlying complex phenotypes. One project will focus primarily on the use of affinity purification coupled to mass spectrometry methods; the second will focus on the adaptation of eukaryotic cell-free protein expression systems to analyze protein-protein interactions in vitro. Both full-time lab positions will be closely mentored by Inari scientists.

AS AN INTERN YOU WILL…

  • Work with plant scientists to develop methods to purify and characterize protein complexes from plant tissue (one position)
  • Work with biochemists to develop cell-free protein interaction assays (one position)
  • Work with molecular biologists to design and build vectors to express plant proteins
  • Work with protein and data scientists to apply cutting-edge models for in silico protein interaction screens
  • Gain familiarity with the biology of protein-protein interactions and networks
  • Use the scientific literature inform new analyses and hypotheses
  • Present your results to stakeholders within the company
  • Become familiar with the best-practices of working in a private sector biotechnology company

YOU BRING ...

  • Practical experience in standard laboratory molecular techniques (buffer preparation, molecular cloning, vector construction, and protein expression, and gel electrophoresis)
  • Basic understanding of molecular cell biology and the structure and function of proteins
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities to collaborate with protein and data scientists.
  • Excellent analytical skills to interpret experimental data and troubleshoot assays.
  • Strong written communication and ability to manage laboratory records
  • Ability to read and understand primary research literature
  • Ability to work in a team in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment
  • Ability to manage ambiguity and to exchange constructive feedback
  • Adaptability and enthusiasm for new challenges, innate curiosity, and a passion for learning
  • Curiosity and enthusiasm for protein science and bioengineering

Bonus qualifications...

  • Pursuing a degree in Plant Sciences, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Bioengineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with protein purification and characterization techniques, such as affinity chromatography, gel electrophoresis, SDS-PAGE, Western blots, and mass spectrometry.
  • Understanding of plant tissue handling and protein extraction methods.
  • Familiarity with protein-protein interaction assays and network analysis.
  • Experience with electronic laboratory notebook software

FOR U.S. CANDIDATES: Please note that we use the resume you submit with your application during our background check process. To ensure an efficient and accurate background verification, we kindly ask that you carefully review and accurately represent your work history, education and other relevant information on your resume.
