We are currently seeking a Sr. Manufacturing Engineer who will perform all conceptual planning and subsequent scope of work, financial planning, supplier management and full implementation of all projects and activities. This person will be responsible for all equipment and planning activities required to process the body in white through the paint system. He/She will plan all aspects of the automotive paint process including vehicle preparation, pre-treatment/e-coat, sealer primer, base coat, clear coat, ovens, and final processing and inspection. 

The successful candidate will facilitate project engineering teams to develop and implement a cohesive manufacturing strategy to enhance engineering concepts and increase profitability through Lean Manufacturing tools such as, but not limited to, Kaizen, Value Stream Mapping & Six Sigma. This person will define initial plant layouts and future expansion planning activities on an as-needed basis and support the new facility start-up from initial concept all the way to volume ramp-up.

You Will:

  • Develop and assist in the implementation of manufacturing engineering’s policies, specifications, procedures, and work processes within the automotive paint shop environment.
  • Manage initial concept, design, the scope of work development, and full implementation for paint shop process equipment for Greenfield and Brownfield Manufacturing facilities.
  • Coordinate manufacturing engineering project teams to enable meeting business objectives
  • Forge excellent cross-functional relationships between engineering, quality, projects, operations teams and manufacturing.
  • Work with the Operations team to plan and develop enhancements to the painting operation for throughput and/or quality improvements and efficiencies.
  • Work with the Maintenance organization to plan and implement in-house Paint Facility and Equipment projects by providing direction, drawings, material and scheduling requirements.
  • Facilitate the interface between engineering and manufacturing to achieve an efficient product manufacturability process design.
  • Create, implement, and review all manufacturing Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) and workstation layouts.
  • Specify all tooling and equipment for all current and planned manufacturing needs.
  • Develop Statement of Work (SOW) to be delivered to suppliers for high-value projects.
  • Develop specifications for paint equipment.
  • Identify, trial and implement any new tools, equipment, and processes.
  • You Bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required (Manufacturing / Mechanical / Electrical / Operations / Industrial).
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in a similar role within an automotive paint shop.
  • Proficient with equipment & process planning, budget process, and simultaneous engineering activities.
  • Experience delivering capital projects & process equipment planning with a focus on paint shop equipment and processes.
  • Ability to create Scope of Work (SOW) for suppliers and contractors to achieve desired results.
  • Fluent in evaluating mechanical/electrical drawings and identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • Preferred:

  • PLC programming and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with water-based paint processes.
  • Knowledge of CAD and 3D layout software.
