Fluence Digital’s IQ platform uses artificial intelligence, advanced price forecasting, portfolio optimization and market bidding to ensure energy storage and flexible generation assets are optimally participating in wholesale electricity markets.
About the Position:
This position will be within the Fluence Digital business unit, formed following Fluence’s
acquisition of San Francisco-based start-up AMS. Fluence Digital’s Mosaic™ software technology uses artificial intelligence, advanced price forecasting, portfolio optimization and market bidding
to ensure energy storage and flexible generation assets are responding optimally to
market dynamics. Following the successful commercialization of the Mosaic software in the US and Australian wholesale electricity markets, Fluence is localizing Mosaic for entry into the Japanese market.
The Solutions Engineer for Japan will play a central role in scoping, launching, and operationalizing Fluence’s Mosaic BESS optimization & bidding software and service offering for the Japanese market. Reporting into the APAC Commercial team, this position will work closely with cross-functional stakeholders in Fluence Digital’s Product Management, Data Science, Marketing, and Analytics teams. The responsibilities of this position will span the product lifecycle, supporting product scoping and initial requirements development, early product commercialization and go-to-market efforts, and initial operations. This position will be based in Japan and will require fluency in both Japanese and English languages, a willingness to wear multiple hats, and the desire to help shape the commercialization of an innovative new product that supports Japan’s energy transition.
Key Responsibilities include:
o Act as subject matter expert on electricity market operations with thorough understanding of market rules, market systems, and bidding and dispatch procedures
▪Interpret market rules governing how battery assets participate in wholesale electricity markets and translate such rules into product requirements
▪Liaise with regulators and market bodies as needed to clarify market operations requirements for BESS participating in wholesale markets
oSupport the design of Mosaic for Japan solution by developing product requirements to meet local energy market rules, local system requirements, and customer requirements
▪Engage with customers (i.e. developers and asset owners) and partners (i.e. route-to-market service providers) to gather user requirements
▪Collaborate with Fluence Product and Engineering teams to design and release a localized version of Mosaic
oSupport the Sales team with sales enablement activities and pre-sales support, serving as a ‘market expert’ regarding how the markets work, and how the Mosaic software interfaces with the markets.
•Lead technical sales support for pre-sales activities, including customer presentations, demos, technical Q&A etc
•Develop sales collateral to support proposals
•Provide technical support for RFP responses
o Support initial post-sales activities including integration scoping and implementation, and assisting with responding to technical customer requests. Support the transition of these activities to the local delivery team.
What will our ideal candidate bring to Fluence?
•8+ years experience working in the Japanese wholesale electricity markets
•Strong understanding of Japanese market structures & regulatory frameworks
•Intimate understanding of electricity market design, including concepts such as bidding, frequency regulation, cascaded markets, and participation of use-limited resources
•Skilled communicator, able to distill complex and nuanced information into clear summaries for collaborators (e.g., influencing product requirements)
•Business proficiencey in both English and Japanese
•An interest in BESS, and in contirbuting to the growth of the BESS industry in Japan, and advancing the role BESS will play in supporting Japan’s energy transition.
•A problem-solving attitude, willingness to wear multiple hats, and ability to work dynamically with a diverse set of internal and external stakeholders.
