Software Engineer Co-op, Hardware Automation

As a co-op on the Software Engineering team, you will help implement features to further increase the robustness of our software, assist in developing drivers to interface with scientific instrumentation, and work with our existing framework to develop streamlined graphic user interfaces. What you will do:

• Collaborate with engineers on the software development team
• Assist with design and development of software that interfaces with scientific instrumentation
• Learn how to effectively design and implement complex software solutions
• Use your unique perspective to put forward ideas to further improve our code base and processes
• Work collaboratively with your supervisor towards completing projects that are assigned to you
• Preferably work from our headquarters in Berkeley, CA 1-2 days per week
• Present your findings in an ongoing fashion to the Software Team and, at the end of your internship, to the broader organization
• Learn a lot and have fun!

For our internship roles, you will need to be: 

• Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program with at least one semester or quarter remaining post-internship​
• Currently pursuing a major in a STEM discipline or meet the programming experience requirements
• Available to work 40 hours per week for 6 months (May or June through November or December)
• Major, experience, or demonstrable interest in the position you apply for

We are looking for qualifications and experience that includes:

• You have 2+ years of experience or academic coursework related to developing software with Python
• You have 1+ years experience with hardware communication (Serial or Modbus)
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills
• Open-minded and motivated to work on a diverse team
• Strong analytical and organizational skills

Additional skills that are preferred but not required:

• You have 1+ years of experience developing graphic user interfaces (preferably Qt)
• Proficiency with Git version control
• Experience with gRPC inter-process communication
• Experience with Figma or other UI mockup tools
• Web development experience using Vue or other frameworks

At Twelve, it's important each employee is compensated competitively and fairly. In alignment with state legal requirements, Twelve conducts exhaustive research to understand compensation markets. A range for the included position is listed below. Be advised, actual offer details are determined by job category, job location, and candidate skill level. 

Wage Range: $43 - $52/hr

Please note that some pay bands may have wide ranges of compensation to accommodate candidate's diverse sets of skill levels.
