Your role and your team:
We are looking for an outstanding Senior Thermal Engineer with a proven industry track record to join our innovative team and shape the future of urban e-mobility. In this position you will become part of the rapidly growing Calculation Department, working closely with engineers from various disciplines in the multidisciplinary Energy Storage System team.
Our Calculation Team works alongside highly qualified engineers using low and high-fidelity calculation and optimization methods to ensure our aircraft and systems achieve our performance targets. We use state-of-the-art systems to deliver rapid results and encourage innovative thinking to achieve the best solutions.
Your Day to Day:
- Take a leading role for the development and application of simulation methods to drive the design of thermal management solutions for batteries and electric components
- Support the thermal runaway design, i.e., venting and heat protection, of the energy storage system
- Work closely together with engineers from interfacing disciplines to establish and run an efficient simulation-driven design process to ensure a timely delivery of the integrated energy storage system
- Apply first order principles, thermal network models and complex 3D multi-physical simulation methods
- Derive reduced order models that are used in system model assemblies
- Define models, test plans and metrics to support system tests to validate methods and design
- Continuously track the design progress, identify risks and develop mitigation strategies
- Author and review high quality technical documentation
- Actively support improving team efficiency by shaping processes and building methods and guidelines of the department
- Ad-hoc tasks and troubleshooting
Your Profile:
- M.Sc. or Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related field
- 8+ years professional experience in a similar position with a proven track record in heat transfer analysis and thermal management
- Good understanding of battery technology and its applications in electrical systems
- Excellent skills in heat transfer modeling and hands-on experience with thermal networks and reduce order modeling
- Strong background in heat transfer mechanism and thermal design principles
- In-depth knowledge of fluid dynamics, conjugate heat transfer and their prediction with state-of-the-art CFD methods
- Proficiency in working with CFD simulation tools (ideally Star-CCM+), thermal network solvers (e.g., Amesim, Simscape), and coding languages (e.g., Python and Matlab)
- Strong motivation to help build and shape your organization, structures and processes
- Ability and willingness to thrive in a fast-paced, rapidly changing work environment
