Archer Aviation is seeking a highly motivated, energetic engineer to join our team in revolutionizing the aviation industry. The candidate will support design of propellers on Archer’s hybrid VTOL aircraft. Candidate will lead cross-disciplinary team from concept through certification of new propeller systems. For this role candidates should process technical expertise in mechanical systems, with emphasis on propeller or rotor design, excellent project leadership capabilities, and knowledge of lifecycle for an aerospace program.
Responsibilities:
- Overall responsibility for the development of the flight critical propeller/rotor system as the project lead
- Work with the cross-disciplinary team and supplier to perform trade studies and define requirements for the system
- Define and manage technical requirements, system architecture, and design specifications
- Coordinate with teams from other aircraft systems or attributes to ensure the propeller meets program level needs
- Provide technical guidance on design concepts (risk vs. cost vs. performance) and perform FMEA and design for manufacturability analyses
- Design and analyze the structure of the propeller / rotor blades and hub, based on engineering fundamentals, and the FAA requirements for propellers under 14 CFR Part 35
- Use your understanding of manufacturing and quality to design parts that are cost effective to produce, assemble, and inspect
- Compile all design intent documentation to hand off to manufacturing, and support manufacturing throughout the build process
- Determine require testing for the system and manage test campaigns, to include both ground and flight testing
- Validate and verify that the designs meet requirements and specifications
Qualifications:
- Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, or related field
- 10+ years of experience in design of complex rotating mechanical systems, with 4+ years working on propellers or rotors
- Deep understanding of mechanical design principles and manufacturing techniques for critical composite structures
- Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams and complex design efforts
- Hands-on experience with ground test and flight testing for aerospace programs
- Familiarity with common aerospace standards (NAS, MS, MIL-STD, AS9100)
- Proficiency in CAD, FEA, or other tools used in propeller design
- Excellent communication and leadership skills
- Preferred:
- Master’s or PhD in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, or related field
- 15+ years of experience in design of propellers or rotors
- Working knowledge of aerodynamics, dynamics, load predictions, and noise and vibration control for rotating systems
- Hands-on experience with flight test programs for propellers or rotors
- Familiarity with FAA certification processes for propellers under 14 CFR Part 35
- Excellent understanding of scheduling, budgets, and resource management
- Experience with Earned Value Management and Agile methods
- Familiarity with MS Project, Jira, Confluence, Smartsheets
This position will require travel up to 25% to Archer facilities or supplier facilities.

Actual compensation offered will be determined by factors such as job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
