The Policy and Regulatory Affairs team at Zoox is a cross-functional organization responsible for advancing Zoox's public policy and regulatory goals and creating a proactive safety culture across the company. Within the Policy and Regulatory Affairs team, the State Policy team works closely with state regulators and policymakers to foster transparency, trust, and confidence in Zoox. At Zoox, safety is foundational to our mission, and we believe in transparency and collaboration when working with governments.
As Zoox expands its operations, this exciting new role will develop and lead our state-level political and legislative strategy for Public Policy and Regulatory Affairs. The position will represent Zoox before the executive offices of the Governor and key executive agencies, including transportation, public safety, and business and economic development, the state legislature, trade and business associations, and think tanks in states where Zoox has operations.
This position will be based at Zoox headquarters in Foster City, CA. Frequent travel within and out of state will be required.
There are three major components to compensation for this position: base pay, Amazon Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), and Zoox Stock Appreciation Rights. The pay range for this position is $164,000 to $182,000. A sign-on bonus may be offered as part of the compensation package. Compensation will vary based on geographic location and level. Leveling, as well as positioning within a level, is determined by a range of factors, including, but not limited to, a candidate's relevant years of experience, domain knowledge, and interview performance. The pay range listed in this posting is representative of the range of levels Zoox is considering for this position.

In this role, you will:
Develop, implement, and lead Zoox’s state political and legislative strategy Support Zoox’s engagement with state regulators and regulatory proceedingsHelp foster and maintain relationships with state officials, their staff, regulators, and other key external stakeholdersTrack current and emerging political activity and policy developments relevant to Zoox’s operations and businessRepresent Zoox at state-level association and political eventsHelp manage state-level political consultant and lobbyist teamsSupport other aspects of the state policy or larger Zoox policy portfolios by developing briefings, researching legislation, and managing complex, cross-functional projectsWork closely with other teams at Zoox, including Legal, Communications, Safety, and other teams to ensure up-to-date knowledge of company plans and reporting policy/political developments with analysisQualifications:
8+ years of public policy experience within state government and/or relevant nonprofits, public interest groups, businesses, campaigns, or industry associationsTrack record of successfully building, implementing, and evaluating complex, cross-functional public policy and government affairs projectsExtensive political and community network at the state level in the western and/or southern regions of the USKeen understanding of the state-level legislative and political processesExcellent leadership, project management, and organizational skillsHigh-level research and policy analysis experienceExperience advocating complex policy positions before a wide variety of audiencesStrong interpersonal and organizational skills and exceptional verbal and written communication skillsExperience with AV, transportation, or other technology policyBonus Qualifications:
Experience working across many different states and familiarity with different states’ legislative processesExperience managing consultants and/or small teamsExperience with policy related to new technology development and/or bringing a new product to marketAdvanced Degree (J.D., MBA, MPP, MPA, etc.)
