ICON is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to help lead the software department for ICON’s Control Systems team. As a Senior Software Engineer I at ICON, you will be in a hands-on coding and technical design role with responsibility for the creation and support of well-designed, maintainable on-premise and cloud-deployed software systems. This role is based at ICON’s Austin, TX office, and will report to the Manager of Software Product.

ICON’s software is a unique blend of hard real-time vs micro-service architectures, extreme on-premise vs cloud computing, and native vs web user interfaces. Engineers are encouraged to take broad full-stack views of problems and solutions including autonomic planning domains, computer vision, and high-volume telemetry data collection and processing.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Design and implement software features aligned with product roadmap.
Develop coding standards that adhere to industry best practices.
Ensure standards and guidelines are automated as much as possible.
Build relationships with external stakeholders.
Proactively communicate and escalate technical risks, issues, and other relevant information.
Lead and support multidisciplinary diagnostic and troubleshooting efforts.
Mentor other software team members toward a proper understanding of the principles, practice, and standards of software design.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

8+ years experience in software development with, desirably, experience in a software technical leadership role.
B.S. degree in Computer Science or 8+ years of equivalent experience.

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

10+ years experience in distributed software architecture.
Demonstrable ability to own and deliver solutions/results of increasing technical complexity.
Highly collaborative in seeking the right solution with cross-functional teams.
Strong communication and analytical skills, a thorough understanding of product development, and experience working with senior leadership teams.
Self-starting attitude, excited to make things happen in new and ambiguous situations.
Superior ability to influence and collaborate with senior management and work across all levels of the organization.
Excellent skills in both static and dynamic typed languages, including but not limited to C#, Python, Go, Elixir, and Javascript/Typescript (Rust would be a plus).
