Position: Senior Software Engineer
Location: Remote, United States
As a Senior Software Engineer at Pivot Bio, you will be a technical lead for a talented scrum team as you help design and implement data processing and web applications that power Pivot Bio’s product development pipeline. This position will be a member of the Data Services group within the Scientific Computing team. The Data Services group is responsible for creating software systems which store, process, and make experimental data accessible to the research community at Pivot Bio. In this role, you will primarily work with field trials data, including UAV/Satellite imagery and geospatial analysis/visualization. You may also work across several other research groups including greenhouse, laboratory, genomics, and bioinformatics.

Responsibilities:
Design and develop scalable, reliable, and high-performance web applications using Python and modern web technologies like React.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify requirements, design solutions, and implement features.
Write and maintain high-quality, maintainable, and well-documented code.
Lead code reviews and provide constructive feedback to peers.
Continuously improve software development practices and processes.
Stay up-to-date with emerging trends and technologies in software development and web application development.

Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field.
8+ years of professional experience in software development with a focus on data processing and web application development.
Strong proficiency in Python or similar dynamic languages (Ruby, Node.js) to build APIs or process data.
Experience with front-end web technologies such as HTML, CSS, and a JavaScript framework like React, Vue, or Angular.
Experience with database technologies such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, or MongoDB.
Strong understanding of software development principles, such as object-oriented programming, design patterns, and agile methodologies.
Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
Well-organized and strong attention to detail
Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
Additional Qualifications:
Experience with geospatial technologies like PostGIS, ArcGIS, CARTO, deck.gl, MapBox, or similar
Experience with cloud-based development, deployment, and hosting (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
Experience with Docker, Linux, Bash
Experience with data warehousing technologies such as Databricks, Snowflake, or Red Shift
Demonstrated ability to learn new technologies quickly.
Background in agriculture, science, or research a plus
Contribution to open-source projects a plus
