ICON is looking for a Senior R&D Test Engineer to support the design, development, and implementation of Product Test infrastructure and operations. You will be responsible for the design, development, and implementation of test operations and infrastructure, as well as the point of contact for a system or systems as they are fabricated and researched. The R&D team focuses primarily on testing existing systems and providing R&D testing services to other internal departments. This role will report to ICON's Lead Engineer - R&D out of our Austin, TX Lab

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Architect test campaigns, design test infrastructure, and execute test procedures.
  • Design data capture strategies that include DAQ systems and instrumentation.
  • Participate in/lead data reviews and hardware design reviews as part of the test and design feedback loops. 
  • Develop and execute system and subsystem level test procedures for research and development testing. 
  • Create data-driven test plans with verifiable pass/fail criteria. 
  • Support technician teams in the fabrication and build up of test stand infrastructure and test articles. 
  • Develop and implement automated test tools, visualizations, and reports.
  • Create operating procedures for standardized testing.
  • Additionally, travel to ICON’s job sites to support troubleshooting and repair may be required.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum 10+ years experience in an engineering test and instrumentation role. 
  • Experience designing test rigs. Includes structural, fluid, and electrical systems and subsystem selection. 
  • Fundamental knowledge of instrumentation (voltage, current, strain, temperature, displacement, acceleration).
  • Understanding of data acquisition systems and ability to select appropriate amplifiers and sample rates.
  • Skilled at data and signal analysis in both time and frequency domain. 
  • Adept at communicating and documenting using written plans, drawings, diagrams.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with Dewesoft, Beckhoff TwinCAT, Python Pandas, Solidworks, ANSYS.
  • PLC Programming.
  • Knowledge of fabrication techniques (machining, welding, sheet metal fabrication, laser cutting, etching, injection molding, 3D printing, hydroforming).
