As Aurora’s Head of Design, you will direct the creation of world-class user experiences across our products. You will guide and grow our design team by setting clear goals and expectations and creating an environment of partnership and personal growth. Your team will define and execute the design process and foster a culture of design thinking company-wide. Along with product, engineering, and the broader company, you will ensure that our product development is built on a deep comprehension of Aurora’s customers and users and that our roadmap reflects a focus on excellence in user experience.

What you'll do:

  • Grow a design team and manage available design resources

  • Develop and mentor design team members, setting clear goals and expectations

  • Team up on high-level product strategy and road mapping

  • Go hands-on to drive direct impact as the team grows and develops

  • Establish top priorities for the team and be accountable to deliver on goals and metrics

  • Oversee design team execution and ensure that we hold a high bar for product quality and consistency

  • Define and drive our design processes, tools, and infrastructure, integrating with an agile approach to product development

  • Oversee design project planning and ensure timely deliverables

What we value:

  • 4+ years of direct management experience

  • 6+ years of experience in user experience design, product design, or related field

  • Experience building powerful design teams and cultures

  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills demonstrated through results-driven cross-functional teams and influence with company executives

  • Natural design intuition and ability to effectively drive consistent design quality across products and designers

  • Experience creating teams and products from scratch, with a willingness to be scrappy and roll up the sleeves while the design organization grows

  • A portfolio of work demonstrating high-impact work at multiple levels: as an individual, team leader, and cross-functional leader

  • Humility and self-awareness demonstrated through a thoughtful focus on learning and development

  • Ability to guide the creation and refinement of effective design processes in partnership with product and engineering, with a focus on leveraging agile and iterative development

  • Proven ability to direct and incorporate user research and customer insights into product development
