About Aurora Solar
Aurora is on a mission to create a future of solar for all. Our award-winning software puts the power of data and technology into the hands of every solar professional to make solar adoption simple and predictable. Our software has designed millions of solar projects so far, empowering solar companies to sell, design, and install residential and commercial solar arrays accurately, seamlessly, and at scale.
We are a remote-first collaborative team of sustainable energy enthusiasts who love what we do. We’ve been named one of "The Best Remote Companies To Work for in 2025" by BuiltIn.com and have been recognized for the second time as a Certified Green Business (CGB) with the city of San Francisco. We’re in this together to support the world’s transition to solar.
About the Team
Aurora’s Engineering team is a collaborative, customer-oriented group that cares deeply about solving real-world problems with quality and care. The team brings deep institutional knowledge and technical rigor, and is tightly partnered with Product and Design in a unified PDE triad. We’re looking for a leader who can help unlock even greater product velocity, sharpen accountability, and coach a talented group of Directors and Senior Directors to scale their impact.
About the Role
As Aurora Solar’s VP of Engineering, you will lead the entire engineering organization across a wide and complex product surface area that spans the full lifecycle of distributed solar — from customer acquisition to system design, financing, permitting, and installation. You’ll inherit a technically capable team with strong institutional knowledge and be responsible for evolving the org to meet the demands of scale and speed.
The successful candidate will be a strategic change agent who can assess what’s working, define what must improve, and drive focused execution across the org. You’ll modernize our software architecture to increase iteration speed while reducing blast radius, and champion a culture of accountability, agility, and roll-forward momentum. Major priorities will include aligning the team on rapidly evolving product priorities driven by market and regulatory shifts; extending our platform’s depth and compliance for international markets; deepening our financing integrations to create a best-in-class experience; and building out the consumer marketplace with a data-driven approach. You’ll lead and develop a team of Directors and Senior Directors, guiding them to operate with greater clarity, urgency, and impact.
Your Impact
Drive global engineering execution with a focus on real customer outcomes solving complex, evolving challenges across the full solar lifecycle
Articulate strategic vision to the Engineering organization, inspiring and bringing excitement to the work. Connect company priorities to the work that the Engineering team performs.
Champion modern AI development tools and practices. This includes agentic coding, LLM-enabled workflows, and automation to increase team velocity, quality, and leverage.
Build, develop, mentor, and scale a strong bench of engineering leaders, enhancing their management capability, accountability, and team autonomy. Ensure that talent is matched with organizational needs.
Maintain an adaptive, high-velocity engineering organization capable of balancing structured quarterly execution with rapid response to shifting customer and market needs
Partner cross-functionally with Product and Design leadership to streamline alignment, prioritize effectively, and accelerate product delivery through lightweight, scalable processes
Oversee IT, security, and GRC functions, maintaining trust with customers and partners through scalable internal systems and proactive risk management
What You Bring
Demonstrated success leading and developing high-performing senior engineering leaders (Directors and Senior Directors), ideally across multiple domains and business units
Deep curiosity and hands-on familiarity with emerging AI/ML tooling. You are an early adopter who helps your organization stay ahead of the curve, and have demonstrated success implementing AI tooling to accelerate feature delivery.
Strong technical competence with the ability to evaluate architecture, guide technical tradeoffs, and partner effectively with senior engineering leaders. You help spot and evaluate new product opportunities based on knowledge of your organization’s technical capabilities and direction.
Consistent track record of partnering with Product and Design to advocate for technical initiatives, align priorities, focus teams, and deliver customer-centric outcomes at scale
Experience leading strategic shifts, focusing on experimentation, rapid iteration, release velocity, and quality
Strategic orientation towards data: you recognize large-scale operational and data as a foundational asset to be used in building intelligent systems
Nice to Haves
Experience in vertical SaaS especially platforms integrating workflow automation, complex data, and third-party integrations
Experience with computer-aided design (CAD), electronic design automation (EDA) or computer vision (CV)
Familiarity with clean tech, solar, or adjacent industries
Track record of rolling out a global software platform and serving a diverse customer base
Exposure to applying product usage data to train ML/AI models, develop intelligent systems or power personalization at scale
Experience with multi-party workflows, including coordination across complex stakeholder ecosystems
